Job Summary: The Claims Examiner III position for Standard Casualty Company is responsible for examining claim files processed by adjusters to ensure compliance with Company Standards. Exercise independent judgement, discretion and management, reviewing and interpreting coverages to determine the Company’s obligations for the claim and investigating and managing liability and litigation claims.
Core Responsibilities/duties will include but are not limited to the following:
- Independently analyze and interpret information received from adjusters, insureds, contractors, and others to determine the Company’s payment obligations for property and liability claims.
- Communicate with adjusters, insureds and contractors to answer questions and receive information for the evaluation of coverage and loss determination.
- Approve payment of claims within the examiner’s settlement authority by interpreting the policy and following Company guidelines.
- Decline payment for claims by following Company guidelines and sends letters to the insured.
- Supervise the investigation of complex claims and take an insured recorded statement when required for property and liability claims.
- Investigate and collect evidence on liability and property claims to determine the liability of insureds.
- Negotiate and settle liability claims within examiner authority when appropriate.
- Manage litigation claims and attorneys.
- Any additional duties assigned by the supervisor.
Required job skills:
- High school diploma with college degree preferred.
- Xactware, Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel spreadsheet proficiency.
- Minimum three (3) years insurance experience consisting of first-party property field claims adjusting and/or desk examining experience or a combination both.
- Current Property and Casualty Adjuster’s Residence license for the State of Texas as well as any other state Adjuster’s license required for examiner to review claims in that state or ability to obtain license in Texas or other state’s where Standard is licensed to do business or ability to obtain license in Texas or other state’s where Standard is licensed to do business.
- Exhibit proficiency in reviewing adjuster work product to ensure compliance with Company standards.
Work Environment and Physical Demands with reasonable accommodations:
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time and be able to operate a computer or other office productivity machinery on a constant basis.
- Frequently required to communicate with co-workers and policy holders with the ability to exchange accurate information as necessary.
