The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

About Columbia Global and Columbia World Projects

Established in July 2022, Columbia Global (CG) is an innovative initiative with a mission to create a strategic platform for meaningful engagement of the University’s faculty, students, and alumni with the world. It aims to foster understanding, tackle global challenges, and promote knowledge exchange. CG includes various key global initiatives of the University, such as Columbia World Projects, the Global Centers, The Committee for Global Thought, The Committee on Forced Migration, and the Institute for Ideas and Imagination.

Columbia World Projects mobilizes the university’s researchers and scholars to work with governments, organizations, businesses, and communities to tackle global challenges. It is a major, university-wide initiative that aims to forge a closer and more useful connection between Columbia University's vast research capabilities and the needs of the world.

Position Summary

Columbia World Projects (CWP) is seeking a highly motivated and dynamic individual to join its team as a Project Officer (PO). The PO will play a pivotal role in supporting the activities and development of CWP's Research & Engagement team. This role offers a unique opportunity to advance work on large-scale problems and initiatives aimed at understanding and addressing complex challenges such as the future of democracy, urban inequality, and effective policy implementation. The PO will work independently and collaboratively on matters of research, analysis, coordination, development of programming, and administration, working closely with senior staff at CWP. The PO will have opportunities to engage with all CWP units and participate in the project development process. The role reports to the Director of Research and Engagement at CWP.

Responsibilities

  • Organize workshops, conferences, and public events related to the team's work and other initiatives.
  • Conduct comprehensive literature reviews on relevant topics and summarize meeting notes.
  • Draft reports, memoranda, convening agendas, press releases, and website content.
  • Develop and administer processes for event planning, logistics, and delivery.
  • Serve as the point person for planning and managing public events and workshops.
  • Liaise with participants, including scholars, community leaders, and government officials.
  • Engage faculty for workshop planning, including meeting design and participant selection.
  • Support budget development and provide program/event budgetary oversight.
  • Work with finance staff on vendor management and partner relationships.
  • Collaborate with the communications team for digital and analog presence advancement.
  • Participate in the overall development and management of CWP's research and engagement efforts.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent. 2-4 years of related experience

Other Requirements

  • Keen interest in working in a university setting at the intersection of thinking and doing.
  • Demonstrated experience in programming in higher education or the social sector.
  • Ability to synthesize research and analysis into written reports.
  • Proficiency with software platforms (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Google Drive).
  • Proficiency with research, data collection, review, analysis, and documentation.
  • Strong organizational and communications skills.
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and time management skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Confidence to propose ideas and strategies.
