Job description

The Position
Do you dream about creating a more sustainable future? At Uplight, we are motivating energy users and providers to accelerate the clean energy ecosystem. Working with over 90 of the world’s leading electric and gas utilities, Uplight provides an end-to-end customer energy experience. Uplight delivers personalized experiences that customers have now come to expect–improving satisfaction, increasing revenue, reducing the cost to serve, and contributing to carbon reduction goals. We are B Corp certified, enabling us to put our values into action by not only making decisions for the benefit of our shareholders, but also for our customers, environment, employees, and community.
We are seeking a Project Manager to join our team and help us achieve our ambitious goals for our business and the planet.
What you get to do:
As a Project Manager, you will represent Uplight as the project team lead to our utility clients during implementation and will be responsible for the overall success of delivering Uplight products and solutions. You will leverage your knowledge of Uplight’s suite of products to guide clients through the implementation process. You will be the primary point of contact for external and internal stakeholders involved in projects, ensuring that contracted milestones are met and that risks are proactively mitigated. As the Project Manager, you will lead a project team and partner cross-functionally within Uplight to drive implementation delivery to meet client expectations and company goals.
To be successful, you’ll need to collaborate with both internal and external resources, including utility program staff, third-party vendors, and Uplight teams. The right candidate needs to be effective at driving results through cross-functional communication and coordination. Overall, we're looking for a TPM who will take charge of client communication and internal project management involved in a launch.
What you will contribute:
  • Project Execution: Adhere to and reinforce project management best practices and standard operating procedures. Monitor project progress, track milestones, and address any deviations from the project plan. Proactively communicate project updates both to internal and external stakeholders in a timely manner.
  • Risk Management: Identify potential risks and develop strategies to mitigate or address them. Monitor and manage risks throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Communication: Communicate effectively with all levels of the organization, providing regular updates on project status, risks, and achievements. Facilitate meetings, workshops, and other communication forums as needed.
  • Budget Management: Develop and manage project budgets, tracking expenses and ensuring that the project remains within the allocated budget.
  • Contract Management: Manage contracts and vendor relationships as needed for project success. Ensure that all contractual obligations for the project are met.
  • Quality Control: Ensure that project deliverables meet quality standards and are aligned with project requirements.
  • Issue Resolution: Identify and address issues that arise during the project, making decisions and adjustments to keep the project on track.
  • Team Leadership: Lead and manage cross-functional project teams, assigning tasks, setting priorities, and ensuring effective collaboration. Provide mentorship and guidance to junior team members.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate and comprehensive project documentation, including project plans, schedules, budgets, and status reports. Manage accurate epic and story creation and progress, tracking to deliverables, and/or committed deadlines.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices in project management.
  • Project Launch & Closure: Ensure proper project closure by finalizing deliverables, conducting post-project evaluations, and documenting lessons learned for future projects. Seamless and timely handoff of client program details to the Operations and Account Management teams after launch.
What you bring to Uplight:
  • Experience: Typically requires a minimum of three to five years relevant experience in project management, including PMI methodologies.
  • Education: A bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as business, project management, or engineering, is preferred. Equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Proven experience working with external stakeholders to define and implement complex solutions and/or address complex technical/process challenges.
  • Problem Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus to drive toward successful outcomes
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and the ability to balance multiple short and long-term projects of varying scopes and time horizons
  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills to facilitate effective communication among team members and stakeholders.
  • Negotiation and Conflict Resolution: The ability to negotiate with stakeholders and resolve conflicts is important for maintaining project harmony.
  • Proven ability to present complex information to a variety of audiences both in person and virtually
  • Excellent client communication and management skills with an ability to defuse escalated situations
  • Up to 30% travel required for in-person client meetings, company on-sites, etc.
Don’t meet every single requirement? Studies have shown that women, marginalized genders and people of color are less likely to apply to jobs unless they meet every single qualification. At Uplight we are dedicated to building a diverse, inclusive and authentic workplace, so if you’re excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with every qualification in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyways. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles.
