Your role at GEI.

GEI’s Boston area office is seeking a Project Geologist. The ideal candidate will work on a wide variety of projects such as buildings, environmental investigation and remediation, waterfront, dam, and infrastructure projects. This individual will provide support to field- and office-related efforts.

Essential Responsibilities & Duties

  • Coordinate and conduct geotechnical and environmental explorations, including soil and bedrock borings, monitoring well installation, and soil and groundwater sampling
  • Observe geophysical testing and performing downhole straddle packer water quality sampling and permeability testing
  • Provide technical oversight to subcontractors
  • Perform data management and analysis
  • Perform geologic interpretation or calculations
  • Draft correspondence and reports, including geotechnical reports and environmental reports
  • Assist with development of, and adhere to, project scopes and budgets
  • Train staff in subsurface investigation techniques and data management/analysis
  • This position has a field component; candidates should be prepared to work in inclement conditions
  • Travel, including some overnight travel, are required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • B.S. in Geology, Civil or Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or related field. M.S. is a plus.
  • 2-5+ years of previous professional experience in geotechnical or environmental investigation, knowledge of bedrock geophysics and geologic mapping.
  • 40-hour HAZWOPER training.
  • Valid U.S. Driver’s license.
  • Excellent computer skills with technical analysis software, CAD, MS Office, MS Project, PowerPoint, and other computer applications. Experience with GIS software a plus.
  • Excellent technical report writing and communication skills are required.
  • Willingness and ability to travel on short-term assignments as needed.
  • Willingness and ability to perform field tasks and oversight year-round, as required without restrictions.
