Position Overview
The Project Foreperson will supervise the field operations for an Earthwork/Roadway/Grading/Surfacing project. The Project Foreperson will directly supervise and coordinate activities and will also engage in the trade work of the employees being supervised.
Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Properly follow all company policies and OSHA/MSHA regulations for safe working procedures and environment. Report any problems to the Superintendent, Safety Manager, or Human Resources Manager.
  • Coordinates daily work activities, job site organization, reading of plans, etc.
  • Supervises and schedules work crews.
  • Organizes job site goals, timelines, and budgets.
  • Orders required supplies and materials.
  • Drive to various job site locations.
  • Consults with other project supervisors and engineers, attends meeting, performs on-site inspections and conducts daily safety meetings.
  • Prepares and maintains required written records, logs, progress reports, time and weight tickets, attendance records and safety and inspection documents as required.
  • Sets grade stakes to guide earth moving equipment operators in sloping highways and fill embankments using measuring instruments and hand tools.
  • Reads survey stakes on the jobsite to determine grade specifications for excavating.
  • Assists with general laborer duties as needed, which may include shoveling, laying asphalt, installing pipes, crusher maintenance, and other tasks as required.
  • Performs pre and post shift inspection of equipment.
  • Assists with heavy equipment operation in a safe and effective manner, as needed at job site locations.
  • Maintaining time and materials records necessary to complete daily job costing
  • Take action to avoid potential hazards or obstructions
  • Participate in and promote an inclusive work environment.
  • Other tasks as assigned to meet business needs

Qualifications

Education/Experience
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
  • 3 to 5 years of related Foreperson experience or an equivalent combination of education and training.
  • Must have knowledge of proper equipment operation and work operations.
  • Experience in grades, dirt moving operations, placement of aggregates and prep to pave

Work Requirements
  • Must be 18 years in age or older.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
  • Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
  • Must maintain current driver's license.
  • Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
  • Individuals are required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and/or MSHA. Protective equipment that may be required, but not limited to, for this position is: Face Shield, Safety (hard toe) Shoes, and Coveralls.
  • Compliance with all OSHA and/or MSHA regulations.

Physical Requirements
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • Constant physical effort, including standing, is required during a regular work shift of at least eight hours per day. Employee must be able to stand for extended periods of time, and to stoop, bend and crouch as required to perform key duties.
  • Ability to lift and carry, on a frequent basis, at least 50 lbs and occasionally.
  • Physical dexterity involving stretching, proper placement of legs, and use of arms and hands in repetitive motions.
  • Maintain constant alertness to multiple concurrent activities of the construction site, including the activities of other employees and contractors, the operation of stationary equipment and the movement of mobile equipment.
  • Frequently walk on uneven surfaces, including natural ground in varying weather conditions.
  • Capable of being certified to enter confined spaces, including climbing into and out of excavations up to 20 feet in depth, using ladders or crawling, as required.
  • Sufficient skill and visual acuity, under varying degrees of light, darkness and weather conditions, to provide direction and flagging for operators of cranes with rate capacities of up to 300 tons.
  • Ability to climb on and off heavy equipment safely.

  • Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Work environment periodically exposes the employees to high levels of noise, grease and dust that are typically associated with a construction project.
  • Employee regularly works near heavy equipment and moving machinery.
  • Work may involve a variety of substances commonly found on construction sites such as form oil, grease, curing compounds, gasoline, diesel fuel and ready mixed concrete.
