Position Summary
We are seeking a highly organized Project Engineerto join our Projects Team. NET Power previously announced its plan to develop and build the world’s first utility-scale natural gas-fired power plant with near-zero atmospheric emissions at an Occidental Petroleum site near their Permian Basin operations. The Project Engineer reports to the VP, Projects and is responsible for supporting the coordination and execution of the Serial Number 1 (SN1) 300MW utility scale NET Power Project. This job will require working with the FEED/EPC contractor, project controls, operations, and outside strategic suppliers of equipment and services. The role includes assisting the VP, Projects with leading and managing the overall project, and integrates closely with the VP, Product Development, to support the 300MW utility scale NET Power standard power train design and the Project Manager, SN1 OSBL to support utilities and offsites design and implementation.
Essential Duties
- Gather information from Product Development and other NET Power staff, FEED/EPC company, and all other available resources to assist with the development and preparation of utility proposals, selection, and execution oversight
- Work with FEED/EPC company, Owners Engineer, NET Power staff, and SN1 project team to plan, organize, and support project execution
- Provide timely planning response from technical and bid preparation through project execution
- Support the project execution process by following appropriate processes and procedures and the following general steps:
- Contribute to project schedule development with FEED/EPC contractor and SN1 team in a form ready to issue and utilize for tracking project progress and staffing utilization
- Support schedule recovery plan development as required to prevent schedule slippage
- Maintain coordination between all entities with responsibilities towards the scope of work
- Prepare project budgets with FEED/EPC contractor
- Provide SN1 team information of milestones completed when invoicing may be expected
- Provide input for project cost and schedule progress on a monthly basis, including earned value, percentage completion, CPI, SPI, and related factors to assess project health and potential interventions required
- Act as liaison, ensuring communication between Product Development standard design development, FEED/EPC contractor, and multiple suppliers of utilities and services
- Monitor and manage project components to ensure they are completed on time and within budget
- Provide follow-up throughout the process to ensure that stakeholders are aware of progress and changes in scopes or schedules
- Ability to travel for short periods to project site near Midland/Odessa, Texas, FEED/EPC contractor offices, and utility and vendor offices and shops throughout North America and Internationally. During some project phases travel could reach or exceed 30%
Education and Required Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited university
- At least 10 years of experience in engineering and project management, preferably in the power generation or petrochemical industry
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills, including organization and direction of technical personnel, experience in procedure and process documentation and technical report writing
- Proficient at project planning and solid organizational skills in a multi-tasking environment
- Proficiency in the review and formation of contracts and subcontracts for equipment and a range of services required for projects
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Capability to train and mentor junior staff on projects from conceptual design to construction completion and operational turnover thru startup and commissioning
- Demonstrated experience as Project Engineer on large scale projects measured by capex greater than $500MM USD with hundreds of direct and indirect staff
- Experience implementing first of a kind technology preferred
- General understanding of contract administration, business principles and business law
- Broad understanding of each engineering discipline, as well as effective management and leadership skills
- Ability to exercise sound judgment in prioritizing tasks and duties
