Job description

The WVU Libraries is accepting applications for a Visiting Librarian (Project Archivist) position for the project, Hidden No More: An Archival Project to Implement Discoverability for the West Virginia Feminist Activist Collection. The Project Archivist will report to the Director of the WVRHC.

  • Salary starting at $55,000 commensurate with experience

Major Responsibilities

  • Arranges and describes collections and prepares finding aids for approximately 40 collections from the West Virginia Feminist Activist Collection (WVFAC) in coordination with WVRHC Archives & Manuscripts (A&M) staff.
  • Works with WVRHC A&M staff and the Center director to establish processing priorities, track progress, and compile relevant statistics related to processing.
  • Implements preservation, conservation, and security measures for WVFAC archival materials as needed.
  • Follows and implements policies, procedures, and workflows for all aspects of archival collection management at the WVRHC.
  • Recommends collection items for digitization in consultation with the WVRHC director and A&M staff.
  • Works collaboratively with the WVRHC Digital Archivist to prepare a minimum of 100 items for inclusion in a digital collection or exhibit.
  • Oversees digitization and/or metadata creation for digital materials
  • Works collaboratively with WVUL Systems Development to create a digital collection or exhibit of selected WVFAC items.
  • Engages with faculty to integrate primary sources about feminist activism after completing a process to determine best fit courses and interested faculty.
  • Supervises and guides the work of a graduate student on the project.
  • Works collaboratively with the staff and faculty of the WVRHC, the WVU Libraries faculty, and the WVFAC advisory team.
  • Writes short updates on the project through WVRHC blog posts and other distribution vehicles.
Qualifications


Required qualifications:

  • ALA accredited Master’s degree in library and information science or international equivalent graduate degree by date of appointment.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience processing archival collections.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience with archival digitization and metadata creation.

Required knowledge, skills, abilities:

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain consistent and usable project documentation.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of metadata standards and archival best practices (DACS, EAD, Dublin Core, MODS).
