Job description

About Milaan Foundation

Milaan is a non-profit organization that envisions an inclusive and equal world where every girl has the knowledge, skills, and social environment to pursue her dreams and explore her full potential.

We believe in the power of movement building to challenge the social norms that reinforce gender inequality and re-write the narratives that shape the day-to-day lives of women and girls, normalizing social, economic, and political exclusion.

Our primary work is focused on and with young women between 12 and 18 years of age from socially and economically marginalized communities. Milaan aims to empower adolescent girls by addressing four dimensions we have identified as critical for their well-being: 1) Completion of Secondary Education, 2) Adolescent Health, 3) Enhanced Agency, and 4) Prevention of Gender-based Discrimination and Violence. Our values of empathy, respect, diversity, integrity, innovation, inclusion, and excellence in execution deeply drive us.

Position Description:

Milaan Foundation seeks a mission-driven Program Officer to strengthen its commitment to work with and for adolescent girls from vulnerable communities worldwide. It’s a new position that aims to build evidence on the impact of building a girl-led grass-roots leadership model to challenge and change gender-regressive social norms and structures and use the evidence to advocate for increased investment in adolescent girls collaboratively.

The person is expected to be an expert in gender and social inclusion with experience working with projects in diverse geographies. You are expected to be a people-oriented leader, believing in the power of collaboration and network building. You will work with organizational leaders, individuals, donors, and technical partners to build and strengthen networks championing the rights of girls and women.

Key areas of accountability:

  • Led knowledge and technical partnerships with industry and academia to generate evidence on the impact of the Girl Icon Program model and participated in knowledge sharing with the larger ecosystem.
  • Responsible for the design and implementation of programmatic interventions working with and for adolescent girls to address socio-structural barriers.
  • Support building comprehensive monitoring and evaluation mechanisms for the Girl Icon Program; this would involve the design and development of the frameworks, capacity building of the M&E implementation team, and impact report writing.
  • Work closely with the Chief Executive Officer to identify funding opportunities, develop funding proposals for institutional donors, and do periodic donor reporting.
  • Build and participate in convergence platforms with other sector leaders working with and for girls in developing countries, such as Plan International, Girls Opportunity Alliance, Girl Rising, Grameen Foundation, etc.

Skills and Qualifications Required

  • Education qualification of a Master’s Degree/PhD in Gender or a related field.
  • At least five years of work experience with experience in research, monitoring and evaluation, and program management within the gender and social inclusion space.
  • Experience and knowledge of effective financial and budgetary control and securing and managing grants from institutional donors.
  • Ability to analyze information, evaluate options, and think and plan strategically.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
