Job Purpose: This position will play a crucial role in ensuring the quality of Calbright’s competency-based education program materials. The position requires editorial skills, content planning expertise, professional writing, and a deep understanding of Calbright’s learner’s needs.

Location: Remote, various locations throughout California

Salary Range: The beginning salary range for this position is Range Classified 24, (Steps 1-3) $43.43/hour - $47.89/hour

Position Overview

The Program Content Advisor reports to the Associate Dean of Learning experience. This position will play a crucial role in ensuring the quality of Calbright’s competency-based education program materials. The position requires editorial skills, content planning expertise, professional writing, and a deep understanding of Calbright’s learner’s needs. This role involves collaboration with various stakeholders to develop, edit, and refine content that engages and educates the adult learner while ensuring quality and rigor of online Program Content.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

The duties below are representative of the role and are not intended to cover all of the duties performed within the scope of work.


  • Collaborate with instructional designers and subject matter experts to align program written content with program outcomes.
  • Provides editorial expertise to ensure consistency in program tone, directions, voice, and rigor.
  • Review and edit content for clarity, accuracy, and overall quality, including written materials, multimedia, and digital content.
  • Provide feedback and iterations while managing timelines and ensuring timely delivery of high-quality content.
  • Analyze student feedback and engagement metrics to refine content strategies and improve user experience.
  • Work closely with Curriculum and Assessment Faculty, Instructional Design Faculty, and subject matter experts to produce content that meets Calbright’s standards and student needs.
  • Stay informed of content trends and best practices, recommending innovations to enhance our content offerings and processes.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned that support the objective of the position.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Exceptional writing and editing skills, with a keen eye for detail.
  • Strong project management abilities, capable of meeting tight deadlines and managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to meticulously check content for errors, ensuring high-quality and accurate output.
  • Proficiency in content management systems (CMS) and collaboration tools such as Google Suite.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across diverse teams.
  • Experience with multimedia content creation, including video and audio transcript editing.
  • Creative thinker with the ability to conceptualize innovative content ideas.
  • Demonstrate understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, staff and faculty.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, English, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience in content creation, editing, or a related role.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in educational or instructional content development.
  • Advanced degree in a related field.

Working Conditions and Travel

  • Calbright College is a statewide online college where all instruction and support are done via various online technologies both in person and remotely. Calbright College has administrative offices in Sacramento available for use. When working remotely, employees should be able and willing to use digital communication tools as used by the college, and have the ability to work on a computer for extended periods of time.
  • Regular attendance is considered an essential job function; the inability to meet attendance requirements may preclude the employee from retaining employment.

  • Requires the ability to function in a remote online instructional environment performing work of primarily a sedentary nature. Requires the ability to use hearing and speech to make presentations to groups and carry on conversations over the phone and in-person. Requires speaking skills to communicate with staff and students in one-on-one and small group settings, on the phone, and to distinguish sound prompts from various types of equipment. Requires near visual acuity to read printed materials and computer screens. Requires sufficient hand/arm/finger dexterity to retrieve work materials, operate a personal computer keyboard, and operate standard office equipment. Requires the ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Work is performed indoors where minimal safety considerations exist.
