SUMMARY:

This position for the TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) Classic, a federally funded TRIO Program, will be responsible for ongoing recruitment of eligible participants for the program and providing academic support, includes enrollment processes, course selection, monitoring academic progress, holistic advising, and providing other resources that will help participants meet their educational and occupational goals. This is a grant funded position.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

  • Responsible for ongoing recruitment of eligible participants for the program to meet caseload and program requirements; assist program leadership in reach programs goals and objectives.
  • Provide academic assessment of participants and holistic career, academic, and personal advising to participants as needed to facilitate the achievement of the students' educational goals. Aid students by exploring academic and financial resources and options, providing guidance regarding course selection, student success, and reviewing academic progress.
  • Monitor student grades throughout the year to ensure their success and provide referral of tutoring services, as needed.
  • Plan and conduct workshops and trainings on student success, student development, and personal growth issues.
  • Maintain accurate data and documentation of all program participants and services and contribute to completing the Annual Performance Report (APR) for the U.S. Department of Education. Review and maintain student files and other documentation to ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and federal guidelines.
  • Plan, coordinate and supervise programs, special events, and functions for program participants.
  • Assist with the application and writing process of TRIO grants.
  • Assist with coordinating and planning for student conferences, travel, or other related duties with both internal and external contacts.
  • Process student employee timecards and maintain appropriate records and budget.
  • Build and maintain collaborative working relationships with schools, community groups and campus partners, includes extensive travel to target schools and agencies to conduct meetings and workshops with students, parents and/or school district personnel.
  • Collaborate with internal and external campus partners, participate in TRIO related events, and serve on committees as needed.
  • Perform other duties as required/assigned by leadership.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, counseling, student affairs, or related field.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in higher education, advising, career programing, or related field.
  • Experience managing and supervising teams.
  • Experience planning and executing programming and events.
  • Experience using various social media platforms and creating outreach materials (flyers, brochures, etc.).
  • Experience working with programs for income dependent and/or first-generation students and ability to effectively advise and advocate for those students from the target population.
  • Experience in grant writing, administration, and/or grant management.
  • Experience in budgeting, planning and management.
  • Ability to perform outreach and recruitment efforts.
  • Ability to navigate computer software, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Adobe Suite, and other products.
  • Strong cross-cultural, interpersonal, and verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong presentation, organizational, and customer service skills.
  • Commitment to inclusion, equity, and access to higher education.
  • Preference will be given to applicants who have succeeded in overcoming barriers similar to those confronting the project's target population.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and ability to travel to participating schools or organizations; some nights and weekends may be required.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Master’s degree in education/education leadership, counseling, student affairs, or related field.
  • Higher education experience.
  • Experience planning and executing large-scale programming and events.
  • Knowledge of TRIO or other higher education academic programs and Support Services and effective practices supporting student recruitment, retention, and development.
  • Experience using design software (such as Canva or Photoshop) to create outreach materials.
  • Bilingual in Spanish.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Normal office environment. Some travel and evening/weekend work is required throughout the year.

SALARY: $45,000 - $50,000
