Summary of Position
Overall duties and responsibilities are teaching all assigned classes and laboratory activities in a professional manner, assisting students on an individual and group basis and assisting the Department Chair in ensuring that the Instructional Programs of the Welding Department are of the highest quality and reflect current technology.
Minimum Required Education
Associates Degree from a nationally, regionally or identified at the state level accredited institution of higher education required
Minimum Required Experience
• Three (3) years of recent paid work experience with a Bachelor's Degree or
• Five (5) years with an Associate Degree in the Welding career field exclusive of teaching
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Knowledgeable in and be able to perform all tasks related to the Welding Industry to include the following: shop-safety, OSHA and HAZMAT requirements, oxy-acetylene welding and flame cutting, soldering and brazing, shielded metal arc welding in all positions, GMAW and GTAW (MIG and TIG) welding, pipe welding in all positions, blueprint reading, templet preparation and welding, fabrication, and layout procedures using different types of metals, welding electrodes and fillers, be AWS 6G certified.
• Knowledge of the Welding education process, must possess teaching skills, and be able to teach the program mentioned above. Must be able to perform the following tasks: curriculum development and evaluation, program development and evaluation, technical writing, course scheduling, recruitment and advertising activities, student counseling on technical career, transcript and work experience evaluation, student registration, work and Advisory Committees, prepare and evaluate student surveys, and evaluate and prepare articulation agreements.
• Possess management skills to include: personnel supervision, budget preparation and management, bid evaluation and supply/equipment purchase procedures, office management, correspondence preparation, personnel evaluation, and resource management and EEO Policies.
Must possess basic computer skills (Microsoft Word) and be able to use a calculator and Xerox machine, able to evaluate situations and make sound judgments, knowledgeable in OSHA and hazardous material requirements.
• Able to perform repairs and periodic maintenance on equipment assigned to the Welding Department.
• Possess a valid Texas driver's license, be willing to travel and eligible for coverage under the college's auto insurance plan
• Possess a pleasant personality and be able to work with people. Must be highly motivated and able to work with limited supervision. Must be fair and impartial when working with students and staff.
• Able to answer office telephones and communicate information to callers.
• Communicate in the English Language (Read, Write, Speak), able to explain enrollment procedures programs/course content in a manner that potential students can understand, able to write legibly, some counseling ability, be able to speak to groups.

The Welding Program requires Instruction in the use of technical publications, welding mathematics, OSHA, safety MSDS, and welding procedures to include:
• Welding, tool and equipment safety and use.
• Use of mathematics in welding,
• Blueprint reading and use of welding codes and symbols.
• Set-up and use of welding equipment to perform flame cutting and welding, brazing, soldering, are welding, MIG and TIG welding, and pipe welding in positions 1G through 6G.
• Welding equipment safety inspection.
• Use of electrodes, rods, and fillers and their use for various types of metals and welds.
• Proper use of shop equipment, power tools, hand tools, precision measuring tools and equipment, power shear, beach, hand and pedestal grinders, drills and drill presses, power hacksaw, power band saw, pipe templet and layout equipment, drafting equipment, and gas manifold systems.
• Use of plasma arc welding equipment.
• Use of welding protective clothing.
• Welding equipment preventive maintenance
• Willing to learn new systems/procedures as needed.
