Job Description
The American College of the Building Arts is seeking a Professor of Plaster to teach an established curriculum beginning in the Spring 2023 semester (begins January 1, 2023). A masters degree or equivalent is preferred, but other combinations of the candidate’s education, training and experiential background will be considered. Candidates should provide evidence of quality teaching and professional experience, commitment to professional growth and be capable of enhancing the college’s overall educational effectiveness.
General requirements:
- Willing to work in a new educational institution
- Demonstrated ability to operate in a team environment
- Ability to refine programs using cross curriculum strategies with the ability to work with faculty members on program content.
- A degree in a relevant field is preferred.
- Ability to use hand tools, maintain hand and power tools and implement shop safety.
- Knowledge of traditional masonry and a variety of Plastering methods (7 years experience preferred).
Specific trade requirements:
- Three coat flatwork on brick, metal and wood
- Running on the table and in situ
- Knowledge of contemporary and traditional lime plaster material
- Ornamental and Decorative Moulding and Casting
- All elements of installation of Plaster
- Design of Plasterwork
- Knowledge of multiple flat finish work (Gauge Plaster, Venetian Plaster, Japanese Plaster, etc.)
