Duties and Responsibilities
  • Tutor students in person or online, individually or in small groups
  • Integrate study and learning strategies to promote independent learning
  • Embed in Classes as assigned and assist instructors in the classroom
  • Maintain weekly schedule for appointments and walk-ins
  • Support and guide students to become critical thinkers, persist in college, and reach their academic goals
  • Collaborate with math faculty, provide feedback to instructors, discussing student progress, addressing student areas of difficulty, and planning for future needs
  • Promote services provided by the Academic Support Center
  • Coach students in use of technology
  • Research and develop resource materials
  • Keep necessary records and input data
  • Serve as a mentor to student workers and supervise in coordinator's absence
  • Assist in every aspect of the daily operation of the Academic Support Center
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:
Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Math, Finance, Statistics, Liberal arts or related field and 1 year of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for teaching or tutoring; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills, and abilities as indicated.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Functional knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in tutoring/teaching. demonstrated by knowledge, understanding and ability to apply concepts, terminology.
  • Functional knowledge and understanding of principles, theories, federal and state laws, rules, regulations and systems associated with Title IX and FERPA.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written documentation, write reports and procedures, and communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team members and individuals.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software.

Desirable Qualifications:
Possession of a baccalaureate degree in math and 3 or more years of teaching or tutoring experience.
Equivalencies:
Any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
