Professional Services Safety Consultant
A Transportation Safety Consultant is a professional who specializes in ensuring the safety and compliance of transportation systems and operations. Their primary role is to provide expert advice, develop safety protocols, and implement strategies to prevent accidents, injuries, and property damage within the transportation and fleet operations.
The ideal candidate for Professional Services Safety Consultant, will partner across Verizon Connect to develop value propositions for our platform products and conduct pre-sales presentations to sign Verizon Connect's most strategic, high-profile prospects. They will be responsible for all technical and compliance aspects of proposed solutions working in close partnership with the Product Management, Engineering, and Post-Sales Services. This role will work closely with product marketing and sales leadership engagement playbooks for the sales teams to adopt and implement.
Customer Engagement
The ideal candidate for this position will work directly with commercial fleet operator stakeholders to educate and consult on the development and implementation of the following safety categories. These customer engagements will include the development of baseline safety program assessment tools, customer consulting engagements (paid or investment), facilitating operations workshops with customer/prospect stakeholders.
1. Safety Audits and Inspections: How to conduct comprehensive safety audits and inspections of transportation facilities, equipment, and operations. Methods to evaluate compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations and standards.
2. Risk Assessment: Identify potential hazards and assess risks associated with transportation activities. Develop strategies to mitigate identified risks and ensure safe operations.
3. Safety Policy Development: Create and update safety policies, procedures, and guidelines specific to the transportation industry. Ensure that safety policies are aligned with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
4. Training and Education: Develop and deliver training programs to educate transportation personnel on safety protocols, emergency procedures, and best practices.Conduct workshops, seminars, and awareness campaigns to promote a culture of safety within the organization.
5. Incident Investigation:Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-miss events to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions.Compile detailed reports with findings and recommendations for improvement.
6. Regulatory Compliance: Stay updated on relevant transportation safety regulations, standards, and codes. Ensure that the organization remains in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
7. Safety Equipment and Technology: Evaluate and recommend appropriate safety equipment, technology solutions, and tools to enhance transportation safety. Stay informed about the latest advancements in safety technology and make recommendations for implementation.
8. Emergency Response Planning: Develop and implement emergency response plans for various transportation scenarios, including accidents, natural disasters, and hazardous material incidents.
9. Client Consultation: Provide expert advice and consultation to clients, including transportation companies, government agencies, and regulatory bodies. Offer recommendations for improving safety performance and compliance.
10. Data Analysis and Reporting: Collect and analyze data related to safety incidents, compliance metrics, and performance indicators. Generate reports summarizing key findings and trends, and make recommendations for improvement.
Thought Leadership Development
The ideal candidate for this position will represent Verizon Connect as a subject matter expert and thought leader for both internal and external campaigns.:
Engage with product development teams to inform roadmap decisions based upon the voice of the customer and compliance officer.
Work with product marketing and sales leadership to develop and deliver internal and external marketing assets, including virtual meetings and webinars.
Work with the Learning and Development team to develop and deliver selling skills training that provides quota bearing representatives with key industry insights, technology understanding and product positioning techniques.
Compliance & Legal
Compliance and legal landscapes continue to evolve for commercial fleet operators around the globe. The ideal candidate for this role will have experience in monitoring and engaging with regulatory steering committees, reviewing and understanding changes to safety requirements at local and federal levels.
This person will work with both product development and legal teams to ensure that Connect products meet regulatory requirements and Verizon Connect has a clear programmatic position for supporting Connect customers legal requirements for compliance and litigation.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Transportation Safety, Engineering, or a related field (advanced degree preferred).
- Professional certifications in transportation safety (e.g., Certified Safety Professional, Certified Transportation Safety Professional).
- Extensive knowledge of local, state, and federal transportation safety regulations.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience in conducting safety audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations.
- Proficiency in using safety management software and tools.
- Ability to travel at least 25% of the time including overnight travel, depending on opportunities
- Transportation Safety Consultants may split their time between office-based work and field visits to transportation facilities.
- May involve occasional travel to client sites, conferences, and industry events.
Experience
- Typically requires 15+ years of experience in transportation safety or a related field.
Where you'll be working
In this mobile role, you'll primarily work from customer or field location(s), with occasional visits to a Verizon location for in-person training and meetings.

If you are hired into a California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Nevada, New York, Rhode Island or Washington work location, the compensation range for this position is between $134,000.00 and $273,000.00 annually based on a full-time schedule. The salary will vary depending on your location and confirmed job-related skills and experience. This is an incentive based position with the potential to earn more. For part time roles, your compensation will be adjusted to reflect your hours.
