Job Description:
A Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) specializing in Geriatric Care plays a crucial role in providing compassionate and skilled healthcare to elderly patients. CNAs work under the supervision of licensed nurses and healthcare professionals to support the physical and emotional well-being of geriatric residents in long-term care facilities, nursing homes, or assisted living facilities.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs): Provide help with bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and mobility for geriatric residents.
Vital Signs Monitoring: Regularly measure and record vital signs, such as blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and respiration rates.
Medication Assistance: Administer medications as per the care plan, while adhering to medication safety protocols.
Patient Documentation: Maintain accurate records of patient information, changes in condition, and activities in accordance with facility policies.
Mobility Support: Aid residents with mobility and transfers, ensuring their safety and comfort.
Nutrition and Hydration: Assist with meal preparation, feeding, and monitoring food and fluid intake.
Emotional Support: Provide emotional support, companionship, and engage in activities that promote mental well-being and social interaction.
Safety Measures: Implement safety measures and fall prevention strategies to ensure a secure environment for residents.
Infection Control: Follow infection control practices and maintain a clean and sanitary environment.
Communication: Maintain effective communication with residents, their families, and the healthcare team to report changes in patient condition or concerns.
Comfort Care: Ensure that residents are comfortable by repositioning them, providing pain relief, and addressing their comfort needs.
Dementia Care: If working with dementia patients, employ specialized techniques and approaches to address memory impairment and behavioral challenges.
Qualifications:
Completion of a state-approved CNA program and certification.
Valid CNA license in the state of employment.
CPR and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification may be required.
Compassion, patience, and strong communication skills.
Ability to follow instructions, work well in a team, and adapt to changing patient needs.
