Salary Range: $53.37/hour - $62.74/hour
Job Summary:
Responsible for guiding clinical practice standards for non-Physicians/APPs in the Ambulatory Care setting, this role is focused on (1) scope of practice interpretive standards, (2) clinical workflow process improvement and standardization, and (3) management of clinical documentation guiding practice. Leads the practice of nursing and other clinical staff through policy creation and review, creation and approval of clinical workflows, clinical procedures/process and other opportunities identified in collaboration with key front-line clinical operations stakeholders. Drives Professional Practice throughout KPCO in alignment with the American Nurses Association (ANA) and the American Academy of Ambulatory Care Nursing (AAACN). Collaborates with market operational and clinical leaders driving workflow efficiencies and standardization. Supports Professional Practice advancement aligned with KPs Professional Practice model.
Essential Responsibilities:
Transformational Leadership
  • Leads clinical Professional Practice in designated clinical areas of aligned healthcare teams as it aligns with the KPCO organizational goals and Magnet designation criteria.
  • Oversees the development, implementation, and adherence to clinical practice standards of care.
  • Influences, and mentors regional clinical operations managers/leaders and clinical staff to engage in Professional Practice and quality standards.
  • Create and maintain a just and accountable culture through transparent communication.
  • Collaborates with front-line clinical operations leaders and service line directors to identify emerging and existing clinical practice trends and issues and ensures consistency of practice, communication, and collaboration with the professional development team.
  • Create a culture that recognizes nursing excellence.
  • Act as a resource and role model for positive, professional communication with all members to foster a sense of professional pride, departmental expertise, and information sharing.
Structural Empowerment
  • Oversees the development and maintenance of regional nursing policies, protocols, procedures, and guidelines across all functional areas (e.g. primary care, medical and surgical specialties, OB/gyn, pediatrics). Independently researches standard nursing practices and collaborates with subject matter experts to ensure evidence-based nursing practices. Formulates and presents reports on progress of nursing practice initiatives and recommendations to improve nursing practice, workflows, efficiencies and service levels.
  • Leads and has oversight of the assigned clinically aligned communities of practice committees.
  • Advance organizational policies, programs, services, and practices that reflect respect, equity, and values for diversity, inclusion, and belonging.
Exemplary Professional Practice
  • Development and evaluation of evidence-based nursing and clinical policies and procedures in accordance with regulatory requirements (CO Nurse Practice Act), external laws and Professional Practice standards.
  • Leads implementation of the Kaiser Permanente integrated professional nursing practice model and ensures the ANA and ANCC core values and professional behaviors and ethics are practiced in assigned clinical departments across the region.
  • Provides oversight of designated Magnet work streams to include ambulatory nurse/patient satisfaction surveys and nurse sensitive indicators as indicated by the ANCC.
  • Partner with colleagues to conduct joint quality improvement initiatives.
  • Completes routine on-site/direct practice observations validating scope of practice adherence.
New Knowledge, Innovation, and Improvements
  • Provides evidence-based recommendations regarding regional nursing practices, efficiencies, and process improvements.
  • Promotes strategy and develops standards, procedures, and policies to ensure that the responsible unit is maintained according to the acceptable level of quality from clients.
  • Leads quality improvement and research initiatives leading to practice evolution and dissemination.
Empirical Outcomes
  • Leads and has oversight Nurse Sensitive Clinical indicators as assigned and designated by the Director of Professional Practice, Clinical Excellence and Market Nursing Officer.
  • Serves as a liaison for the department/function to discuss complex administrative matters, business processes and project activities to facilitate department goal attainment.
  • Trend and benchmark data to identify variances and improve the quality, efficiency, and effectiveness of care; patient safety; and satisfaction.
Other related duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications: Experience
  • Minimum five (5) years of clinical experience in acute care, ambulatory care, and/or case/population management.
Education
  • Masters degree in Nursing (MSN) or healthcare related field.
  • In lieu of degree, currently enrolled in MSN or healthcare related program with documented plan to complete degree within one (1) year of hire.
License, Certification, Registration
  • Registered Nurse License (Colorado)
Additional Requirements:
  • Certified Nurse Specialist, Ambulatory Care Nursing Certification (AMB-BC), or American Nurse Credentialing Center (ANCC) within one (1) year of hire.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of professional nursing principles, practices, and procedures as applied to the care of patients in different settings, strong customer focused skills, strong interpersonal skills and ability to successfully resolve conflict.
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize communication, consultation, facilitation, influencing, negotiation and interpersonal skills on an expert level with variety of management and other personnel, including external partners/groups.
  • Ability to utilize multiple software programs, video conferencing, inter-active media and interactive distance learning/website and network materials/resources.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience clinical policy development.
  • Understanding of nursing regulatory and scope of practice requirements.
  • Magnet development and experience.
  • Experience in operational excellence.
  • Experience in and understanding of health care delivery in an ambulatory setting preferred.
  • Experience in managed care setting preferred.
