Victor Insurance is seeking a Professional Liability Underwriter. This is a hybrid role based in Bethesda, MD.
What can you expect?
  • Responsible for the management of an existing renewal portfolio and new business generation
  • Reviews submissions, including financial statements and legal documents, to determine proposed premiums and coverage conditions
  • Works closely with external broker distribution force to negotiate pricing and policy provisions
  • Maintains portfolio profitability and ensures compliance with both state and carrier guidelines.
  • In addition to managing a robust book of business, the ideal candidate will have the ability and desire to grow and own their assigned territory through aggressive prospect pipeline management and achievement of new business premium goals.

We will count on you to:
  • The ability to review and document accounts based on program authority. Engage carrier program manager to gain authority for underwriting exceptions.
  • Reviews and analyzes major submissions without assistance and identifies new business opportunities to generate new accounts while maintaining a book of existing business.
  • Completes policy issuance and handles account transactions by negotiating and obtaining mutual agreement from clients, and binds coverage and initiates issuance of documents.
  • Systems Support - Ability to adapt to various systems and develop the skills necessary to support client management, continued development and testing
  • Reviews and analyses new submissions for context and requirements in adherence to state laws and regulations for ratings and quotations.
  • Establishes and maintains business relationships with carriers and brokers to negotiate terms and conditions and to expand business with the client account.

What you need to have:
  • Commercial underwriting experience
  • Strong analytical aptitude and critical thinking as demonstrated through work assignments
  • Detail orientation and a desire to learn
  • P&C license mandatory, or ability to obtain
  • Proficient skills in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat, & PAS/Underwriting systems
