Professional Dog Trainer

Woofers Pet Resort, with locations in Sturgis and Black Hawk, South Dakota, is looking for a Professional Dog Trainer to train dogs and coach their parents. We offer 1-on-1 training sessions with a dog and his or her owner and also a two-week residential training program.

This is an opportunity for a solid trainer who does not yet have an established clientele or who does but does not have his or her own facility. Or for a trainer who would prefer to concentrate on training rather than dealing with the work and cost associated with the business side of things including marketing, billing, administration, etc. S/he can work under our brand and let us do all the work other than the training.

This contract position pays 40% of all training revenue, and there is no cost to the trainer for working out of our facilities (they're first-rate) and benefitting from our brand, marketing, administration, etc. Last year the business earned $68,000 in training revenue, but our trainer (our owner) had limited time. There is more need than he can serve, and he needs to focus less on training and more on management. Plus, we are opening a second location in a larger market with even greater training needs, so we could provide much more training in the future. Also, we are open to offering other types of training including in-home visits, group classes, behavior problem-solving, etc.

The trainer's schedule is flexible and could possibly even work around a regular, full-time job. The main thing is that the dogs and their people receive excellent training. This would be a part-time income for now that could turn into a full-time gig or career.

Some candidates tend to apply who simply love dogs and have worked with their own and maybe a family member's and friend's dog or two, but we need someone with more experience and a demonstrable skill level. A pro. If you have excellent training chops and love working with dog owners as much as dogs, we might be a great fit for each other.
