DescriptionJob Objective:

This position has multiple tasks where you might be doing one or all of them. In this position you could be inspecting and sorting all clothing, textiles, and other soft goods to determine salability. Correctly hang good quality clothes on proper hangers. Properly sort all Rack items for unit pricing, for sale in the store. Attach the proper colored tags to all "ready for sale" hanging clothes. This position reports to the Production Manager who evaluates performance annually.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Knows and understands the Goodwill Mission: Strengthen communities by empowering individuals and families through education, training and job placement.
  • Inspect all soft goods from hampers, including household linens as well as infants, girls, boys, mens, and womens clothing, looking for spots, holes, ripped seams, etc. Determine if item is saleable in the store or needs to be sent to salvage sales; apply Oops/Quality Control guidelines.
  • Sort for seasonal clothing and current style.
  • Sort hanging clothes from household linens and items for Bin pricing.
  • Quickly check all clothes for obvious defects before hanging.
  • Properly hang clothes on appropriate hangers, fastening top buttons and/or zipping all zippers.
  • Pin or double hang clothes as needed.
  • Attach proper weekly color and correct colored tag to hanging clothes, ensuring the tags are placed on seams or other locations that will not damage the garments.
  • Properly discard apparel that is not sales worthy.
  • Deliver all jewelry items to the jewelry box.
  • Count all found money, then place it in the designated lock box in the cafeteria.
  • Place household wares items in wares basket for return to Wares Department.
  • Label each container packed with correct store destination.
  • Keep inventory sheet for each container packed, showing number of items of each price enclosed.
  • Assist with transporting barrels and boxes to the warehouse.
  • Empty trash into trash cart, as necessary.
  • Be a role model by setting a very positive example regarding attitude, attendance/punctuality, attire, work habits, and personal productivity
  • Report unacceptable sorting by co-workers to team leader / supervisor.
  • Other tasks as assigned by Supervisor.
  • Cooperate with and support PAs.
Qualifications
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Ability to stand and walk 8 hours per day.
  • Familiarity with current clothing styles, brand names, materials, etc.
  • Ability to make quick, accurate decisions.
  • Ability to move full carts of clothing.
  • Ability to bend and work out of laundry cart.
  • Ability to hang clothes on hangers.
  • Ability to reach up and hang clothes on rail.
  • Ability to operate tagging gun, tag garments properly. (e.g., seams)
  • Awareness of current styles, current market prices, quality, and various brands of clothing.
  • Ability to count and track cloths for production reports.
  • Ability to work/communicate well with teammates and clients.
  • Some exposure to broken dishes and glassware.

  • Ability to bend, stoop, reach and lift 10 to 15 lb. boxes.

Environmental Conditions:

  • Light Industrial Plant with significant textile dust.
  • Occasional pests (e.g., small rodents, insects)
  • Possible skin irritation from wide variety of unknown materials handled.
  • Repetitive hand and arm motion.
