NATURE AND SCOPE:
This position reports to the Unit Manager level along with other Supervisors Production, Technical Supervisors and Supervisors Production Control.
This position leads Hourly employees within area of responsibility with frequent daily technical and engineering guidance from a senior Supervisor Production or Unit Manager. Responsible for facilitating the implementation of teaming and plant modernization activities at the shop floor level. This is for a 1st and 2nd Shift
The Supervisor Production directs and organizes the activities of Hourly employees to assure that production, engineering and quality requirements are met within utilization, efficiency, cost and schedule.
Hourly employees reporting to the Supervisor Production are engaged in manufacturing activities including, but not limited to: broadly defined, team-oriented assembly and machining practices, cross-training, material control and various related shop activities.
These include machining and assembly of components and sub-assemblies; sheet metal forming and fabrication; cutting, grinding, brazing or welding operations; fabrication of structural steel components and manifolding; chemical and heat processing and painting; mechanical and electrical/electronic assembly, or basic support activities including, but not limited to, the requisition, shipping/receiving, storage, distribution and inventory control of raw materials, components, sub-assemblies, factory supplies, tooling equipment and spare parts; the assurance of high quality production and vendor supplied components and assemblies; and inspection/calibration of products, tools, gages and test equipment; the installation, repair, modification and maintenance of all production test equipment, buildings, grounds utilities and other facilities.
The incumbent operates in an environment requiring administration of an established plan to improve quality production schedule and capacity utilization. Leads a team of employees to meet Certified Assembly Manufacturing standards. Functions as a coach to educate employees and facilitate team contributions. Incumbent monitors progress and changes to production schedule with close coordination by Unit Management as well as daily guidance from Unit technical or engineering personnel. The achievement of area efficiency, utilization and schedule goals within cost and quality standards often directly impact Unit goals.
Work force supervised by incumbent can encompass more than one (1) functional group. One (1) to five (5) Hourly classifications may be supervised.
The primary function of the incumbent is to perform administrative duties to continuously improve manufacturing activities and meet established goals for immediate area of responsibility. Position requires effective organization and coordination of employee teams and available capacity. The incumbent leads a team that identifies production problems related to employee assignments, materials, facilities, supplies, schedule, quality control, repair and maintenance, or planning and instructions; and prevents or corrects production scrap, delays, or interruptions which may impact Unit schedules. Subject to direction and review by Unit Manager, incumbent assigns work, administers Company Standards of Employee Conduct and Attendance .
A principal challenge for this position is the need for problem and conflict resolution is an environment where time and performance constraints require effective rapport and communications with employees. Any decisions which impact planned scheduled, cost and/or production configuration are referred to Unit Manager.
Incumbent's actions are clearly guided by established production schedules, planning and procedures as well as close daily direction from verbal or written instructions and review.
Consistent with area goals and established level of supervisory review, the incumbent maintains daily working contacts within the incumbent's assigned area.
Incumbent must have basic training or equivalent experience in the area of planning, organizing and directing Hourly employees, preferably in a manufacturing environment. Requires strong communication and human relations skills and the demonstrated ability to instruct, train and motivate Hourly employees in a manufacturing environment.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
• Assure effective operation of assigned area of manufacturing to meet an established schedule and production plan.
• Function as a change agent in plant modernization efforts.
• Supervise Hourly employees in assigned area to assure effective utilization of personnel and facilities.
• Determine needs and coordinate actions required to maintain standards of quality, safety and efficiency in area supervised.
• Train and motivate an effective work force of qualified Hourly personnel capable of meeting area goals and objectives.
• Perform assigned duties within guidelines of established Company policy and practice.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor or associate degree (preferred), High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
• Minimum of 3 years' relevant experience
• Previous formal leadership experience
• Ability to work weekends as required
Preferred:
• Manufacturing or fabrication industry experience
• Strong communication skills with ability to communicate across all levels of Leadership
• Understanding of lean manufacturing principles and operational processes
• Bilingual, English and Spanish
