The Plymouth, MI facility serves as corporate headquarters and specializes in suspension, driveline, and track systems. The Lansing and Lapeer Michigan based facilities specialize in fabrications and armor product solutions. Job Title: Production Supervisor
Department: Operations
Summary
The position holder is responsible for the implementation & application of sustainable & optimized systems and processes in the area of responsibility in order to achieve relevant operational targets (e.g. quality, output, cost, time). The position holder is responsible for the safety, health and development of people reporting to the position. By doing so, he/she takes into account all customer-relevant regulations and laws. Furthermore, the position holder ensures that processes are carried out with the standard specifications (based on key performance indicators (KPI)) and is responsible for the availability / provision of resources (such as people, machines and production space).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned
-Support in setting the link between plant/company goals & strategy and the shop floor with support of operations unit/ production management team (shared responsibility)
-Show presence on the shop floor and act as role model & coach for shop floor employees (full responsibility)
-Enable a values based and healthy leadership culture
-Execute regular shop floor meetings to communicate daily KPI's, set priorities, define measures supported by employees
-Secure the observance of standard work instructions and processes
-Plan variable head count to secure the full productivity under consideration of the actual orderbook and manage personnel availabilities (e.g. vacation, sickness, training...) to ensure daily production
-Monitor machine capacity to ensure the daily production taking into account cost, quality and order situation
-Drive and implement improvements for optimization of material flow, monitor and report the targets of efficiency
- Promote "Quality First" and improvement culture on the shop floor, encourage and challenge employee's participation in continuous improvement processes
-Drive proactively lessons learned and best practice sharing
-Ensure implementation of quality standards and apply quality methods to increase quality performance
-Support systematic implementation of Continental Business System CBS methods & tools
-Implementation and carry out of improvements measurements for continuous reduction of manufacturing costs & process improvement
-Use audit & quality review results (internal, external, 5S, ...) to set up sustainable optimizations
and ensure implementation

-Motivate and support employees to share their ideas for improvement, e.g. by using Cost Saving Program CSP
- Continuously track the actual state against defined target state by using Key Performance Indicators (KPIs, e.g. output, scrap/waste, productivity) under consideration of budget / standard
- Evaluate complex problems detected in his area of responsibility (either through target state/ KPI deviations or other means) & escalated by shop floor operators as defined in the standards, decide on escalation upwards in hierarchy depending on magnitude of problem, steer systematic problem solving processes until solution is found, present/communicate solution and adjust standard/ target state accordingly
-Implement and ensure compliance with established internal/ external policies, rules, guidelines and procedures (e.g. technical cleanliness, ISO...)
-Support and run audit process (internal/external) if required –
Ensure systematic & continuous qualification /competency development of employees, i.e. ensure that a qualification matrix exists & create individual development plans '-
- Create a culture of safety and health through leadership & act as role model
- Ensure application of ESH regulations and management methods & tools (e.g. 5S systematic) as well as
engagement of people
- Enhance safety performance by tracking & reporting safety incidents (e.g. accidents, ergonomic, behavior-based, and process-related; layout related incidents), remove hazards, support evaluation of ESH measures effectiveness & implement best practices
-Support a culture of life-long learning and provide learning opportunities for employees
-Decide on suitable development measures for employees, document participation and evaluate effectiveness
-Perform annual face-to-face employee dialogues to discuss performance, potential and development of employees, provide effective feedback & address poor performance
-Ensure proper onboarding/ integration of new employees

Education and/or Experience
Educational background based on local requirements (e.g. highly skilled operator or Technician with several years of working experience or master craftsman certification or similar)
Several years of working experience in the plant operations, ideally in different areas, e.g. quality, production, manufacturing engineering etc. (minimum 2 years)
Relevant technology process experience
Ideally has gained first leadership experience, via team work coordination
Ideally has worked in cross-cultural environment for several years (e.g. in an international team)
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
