Job TitleProduction Supervisor (3rd Shift)
LocationSt. Albans, Vermont
Description

Ensure DFA products are produced and distributed to the highest food safety and quality standards. Oversee operations and supervise assigned employees for each shift on a relief basis. Recognize deviations from standards and determine correct problem resolution.

  • Follow and enforce all DFA good manufacturing practices (GMP) and work in consistent manner with all corporate, regulatory, food safety, quality, and sanitation requirements
  • Ensure staff complies with all safety regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Provide leadership in development and maintenance of team effort. Determine work quality performed and correct performance immediately through re-training and/or counseling
  • Provide instructions to assigned staff in all departments throughout shift to assure conformance to quality standards. Maintain position of authority and accountability by communicating work and company information to employees on a regular basis. May seek input and opinions from employees
  • Follow weekly schedule required to meet production requirements. Direct standardizing, product transferring, and tank-changing activities. Maintain accurate shift records of receivables and other production activities as required
  • Monitor all equipment performance to ensure normal conditions and standards of cleanliness are met. Develop resolutions to production problems and seek appropriate help when needed
  • Coordinate product movement to ensure adequate bag and product supplies are available for packaging and bulk truck loading activities. Observe quality of packaged product and appropriate stacking
  • Maintain accurate records of inventory, rework, and other product categories. Oversee product transfer and receipt while ensuring compliance to handling standards and product contamination prevention. Coordinate efforts for packaging and warehousing activities
  • Maintain inventory control through monitoring and accurate recordkeeping. Advise leadership of required inventory items and other requirements as well as deviations from established procedures
  • Provide assistance to accounting functions through accurate recordkeeping, inventory confirmations, and modification notifications
  • Record and report any actions which violate safety, dress code, and work standards. Ensure safety program compliance as required
  • Review and approve employee hours and related information. Advise employees of correct procedures for requesting time off. Monitor unauthorized employee time away from workstation
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of all plant systems and equipment
  • Provide training to employees in various required OSHA programs. Conduct Safety Tool Box Talks and Safety Observations. Assist in orientation and training of new employees
  • Develop staffing schedules to ensure necessary work coverage
  • Monitor and document progressive discipline procedures
  • Dedicate effort to safety as we expect every employee to leave work in the same condition as they arrive
  • Follow all DFA good manufacturing practices (GMP) and work in a manner consistent with all corporate regulatory, food safety, quality, and sanitation requirements
  • Exhibit the values and ethics of Dairy Farmers of America through honesty, discretion, and sound judgment
  • Adhere to all DFA Quality, Safety and GMP policies and procedures and report any nonconformity
  • Attend required training, including but not limited to Safety, GMP, Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP), and Safe Quality Foods (SQF)
  • Lead 5S, A3 projects focus on maintaining a ready for audit any time policy.
  • Ensure availability to respond to emergencies or other unexpected operational requirements (i.e., nights, weekends, or holidays). Participate in on-call rotation

Requirements

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) and 5 years of experience within food or beverage manufacturing environment, including 1 year of direct supervisory experience

OR

  • Bachelor’s degree and 1 year of experience within food or beverage manufacturing environment, including 1 year of direct supervisory experience
  • Certification and/or Licenses
    • May be required to obtain and maintain other certifications and/or licenses in the future

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and company computer systems, specifically Excel and SAP
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of supervision, training, and personnel management, especially in union environment
  • Knowledge of processing systems and equipment
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations regarding waste, air, wastewater, land application, and storm water
  • Knowledge of safety related issues, including regulation compliance
  • Skill in proficient computer usage
  • Skill in critical thinking, analysis, mathematical calculations, and statistical evaluations
  • Skill in leadership and coaching
  • Able to complete basic arithmetic in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Able to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Able to work in collaboration effectively and foster good teamwork
  • Able to take appropriate steps to find solutions to problems
  • Able to handle challenging or conflict situations with tact and professionalism
