Job Description

Production Superintendent - Decatur, IL
Location: Vitamin E Plant, Decatur, IL
Position Summary:
The Production Superintendent works with the Plant Superintendent to direct the general Operations of the Vitamin E Plant. Directing the operations is achieved by maintaining close contact and working with the various internal groups of the Vitamin E Plant (Quality Control, Quality Assurance, Engineering, Safety, Environmental, and Maintenance), and external groups involved in the Nutrition Division (Commercial Group, Vitamin E and Sterols Product Managers, Customer Service Reps, Accounting, Tech Services, and Research).
Roles and Responsibilities
  • Work with and backup the Plant Superintendent to achieve all goals of the plant daily production including the flowing areas.
  • Determine production schedules and product output to maintain adequate finished product inventories and operating levels throughout the Vitamin E Plant process
  • Communicate production-oriented schedules, plans, and projects to Supervisors
  • Directly oversee production Supervisors
  • Work with the Plant Manager and external corporate groups to provide Supervisors with assets necessary to successfully attain business and production goals
  • Monitor and maintain product quality throughout the production process based on feedback from QC/QA
  • Work with ADM Co-manufacturing team on external campaigns to ensure raw material and packaging availability.
  • Maintain appropriate inventories of packaging supplies, chemicals, miscellaneous operating supplies, and minor processing aids
  • Perform Month-End inventory assessments, plant yields, and individual product-class yields
  • Direct Engineering on necessary projects required to maintain satisfactory operations of the facility
  • Contribute to customer and certification audits, and regulatory inspections
  • Monitor Operations KPIs and performance metrics, report during management reviews
  • Monitor operating costs to determine areas for improvement, trends, and opportunities, report during management reviews
  • Champion corporate-level initiatives designated for operations facilities (safety, environmental, quality, ethics, etc.)
  • Report food safety, quality, environmental, and occupational safety issues to the Plant Superintendent, Plant Manager and the responsible personnel, and aid in the remediation of such issues
  • Adhere to the directives and guidance prescribed by The ADM Way
Job Requirements:
  • A minimum 10 years experience in a food / agricultural / or equivalent experience within a food / agricultural / manufacturing facility in roles of increasing responsibility.
  • Excellent communication (spoken and written), listening and teamwork skills
  • Excellent leadership ability, planning, and organizational skills
  • People management is a plus.
  • Food Safety, HACCP or PCQI, GMP training preferred.
  • Regular and prompt attendance
Working Conditions:
  • Dust
  • Inside areas:
    • Spring / Summer: Temperatures in some areas of the facility will be up to or exceed 100 degrees
    • Fall / Winter: Temperatures in the facility may be at or below freezing.
Outside areas:
  • Spring / Summer: Outside temperature may be up to or exceed 100 degrees with potential for high humidity. May be exposed to inclement weather conditions including, but not limited to, rain and wind.
  • Fall / Winter: Outside temperatures may reach freezing or below. May be exposed to inclement weather including, freezing rain, sleet, snow and wind.
  • Some manufacturing processes within the facility are highly reliant on machinery and other processing equipment and, as a result, noise levels may reach or exceed 85 decibels and require use of hearing protection part of the day.
Physical Requirements:
  • Able to traverse up to two (2) miles during the course of a work day.
  • Able to move about or to a work site by stooping, bending, kneeling or squatting frequently during the course of a work day. May require periods of prolonged sitting or standing.
  • Able to operate equipment or diagnose / detect issues of machinery that may be located at different heights. May require work on ladders, scaffolding or other work at heights.
  • Requires a full range of physical motion in order to operate manual and electrically powered tools and test equipment, to move throughout the facility, including climbing stairs in all buildings, and to work at heights
