Position: Sewing Machine Operator

Success Factors:

  • You will be able to thread and run all sewing machines in your department within 3 weeks.
  • You will be efficient in sewing/producing standard line products in your department within 6 months.
  • You will be efficient in sewing/producing all products in your department within 9 months.
  • You will be able to start working on additional products in other departments within 9 months.

Job Functions:

  • Process - Understand and practice one piece flow manufacturing method.
  • Sewing – Be proficient at sewing on several machines and many different products.
  • Production – produce first quality goods in a timely fashion.
  • Monitor machine operation to detect problems such as defective stitching, breaks in thread, or machine malfunctions.
  • Position items under needles, using marks on machines, clamps, templates as guides.
  • Place spools of thread, cord, or other materials on spindles, insert bobbins, and thread ends through machine guides and components
  • Match material pieces in correct sequences prior to sewing them and verify that patterns match control
  • Guide materials under machine needles and presser feet to sew parts together
  • Record produced quantities
  • Inspect finished product to locate defects and to correct defects if able. If not, notify Department Leader and/or Quality department.
  • Be proficient at sewing and be able to cross train to on other items
  • Getting Information – Observing, receiving, and otherwise obtaining information from all relevant sources.
  • Controlling Machines and Processes – Using either control mechanisms or direct physical activity to operate machines or processes.
  • Handling and Moving Objects – Using hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials, and manipulating things.
  • Inspecting Equipment, Structure, or Material – Inspecting equipment and materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects.
  • Communicating with Supervisors, Peers, or Subordinates – Providing information to supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person.
  • Other Job Functions – any functions as deemed necessary by management.
