Position Objective
As an Assistant Operations Manager at Sparton, you will lead the 2nd Shift production team in the manufacturing of multiple sonobuoy value streams, ultimately responsible for driving a culture of safety and quality, delivering on time, and continuously improving our ability to win together. This position directly reports to the Director of Manufacturing Operations.
Primary Responsibilities
- Promote, foster and demand an environment of Safety, through coaching and leading by example
- Direct activities in area of responsibility to attain maximum plant operating efficiency, product rate and product quality
- Track plant operating KPI’s related to Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, People (SQDCP)- Injury rates, First Time Through Quality/ First Pass Yield (FTTQ/FPY), Schedule Adherence, Productivity, Equipment Downtime, and Attendance/Attrition
- Manage operations with a cost control mindset
- Manage and ensure employees are trained and safe in operation.
- Maintain good employee relations by explaining the “Why”, nested in company goals and policies
- Facilitate all personnel actions as required (scheduling, recognition and reward, discipline, performance reviews, etc.)
- Ensure effective communication and escalations for planning, execution, and constraint management
- Oversee daily inspections for proper operation and condition of plant processes and equipment
- Ensure 6S principles (Safety, Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain) are incorporated into all aspects of production
- Perform routine Root Cause Analysis and take required actions to correct and compliment findings
- Support and nominate continuous improvement efforts to optimize efficiency
- Actively participate within the Managing for Daily Improvement (MDI) framework, including meetings, GEMBA walks, and KPI oversight activities
- Extended workdays and/or work outside of regular shifts may be required periodically based on business needs

Additional requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Operations, Business Management, or relevant discipline, is required.
- 5+ years demonstrated management skills in an industrial/manufacturing environment
- Ability to interact and engage at all levels of leadership clearly and concisely
- Assess priorities and act decisively to complex, urgent issues
- Provide timely and accurate reporting
- Positive attitude, friendly demeanor, and a team player
- Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, Six Sigma, Design Thinking knowledge preferred
- Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, SharePoint, Teams) knowledge required
- Must be a U.S. citizen
SupervisoryResponsibilities
- Lead a team of 5-7 Production Supervisor direct reports with ~175 secondary reports

Physical Requirements
- May be required to stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead, and bend to the floor.
- Able to stand and bend for long periods of time in a manufacturing environment.
- Able to lift up to 20 pounds.
- Visual acuity – Normal requirements for reading written instructions and computer screens.
- Hearing ability – Normal requirements for understanding verbal instructions.
- Working conditions – The employee is subject to a manufacturing environment with occasional exposure to high noise levels and exposure to physical hazards such as proximity to moving mechanical parts and electrical current.
- Capable of wearing appropriate related PPE for extended periods of time.
