Title:Production Leader
Mission: To lead from the front our manufacturing effort through sound operational planning and direct oversite of production team activities. As a key part of the site leadership team, this position will safely maximize production efficiency through improved production rates, reduced downtime, and scrap rates.

Position Requirements
Education/Experience: Associate/bachelor’s degree preferred but relevant experience can supersede. Basic mechanical aptitude and experience with extruders used in plastics industry a must-have. Practical leadership skills/experience also a must.
Skills/Knowledge/Ability: Ability to develop, monitor and take corrective action as needed for manufacturing metrics. Present manufacturing goal vs. actual data to senior leadership monthly. This will be done as part of the local leadership team’s overall state of the business report out for the previous month. Must have basic mechanical and problem-solving skills to limit/prevent equipment damage. Develop, mentor and coach subordinates, lead by example. Identify bottle necks in the manufacturing process, implement/recommend corrective action.
Authority: Reports to VP of Manufacturing. Directly responsible for all manufacturing personnel and equipment.
1. Safety/Orion Culture
1.1 Contributes as key member of Orion management team.
1.2 Leads subordinates by example.
1.3 Maintain employee safety meeting schedule, rotate hourly employees through on a regular basis.
1.4 Conduct pre-shift safety talks with group.
1.5 Report (written) near miss/injuries within 24 hours. Report should include short-term corrective action.
2. Maximize Production Rates
2.1 Provide process parameters for all products/machines. Attach with other traveler documents.
2.2 Manage/Schedule employee breaks to increase shift output.
2.3 Spot check machine output to verify expectations are met.
2.4 Insure all preconditions for process runs are met, for example pre-drying of resins.
3.Scheduling OT and Directing Operators
3.1 Ensure all subordinates know you expectations, their individual objective for the shift and have a plan to get there.
3.2 Minimize OT if possible. If needed give at least 4 hours’ notice.
3.3 Assign OT per company policy or on a rotating basis.
4. Scrap Reduction
4.1 Verify allocated and return weights at batch closing.
4.2 Verify all unused raw materials are returned at end of run.
4.3 Verify return of all calibration materials to feed system.
4.4 Sequence orders to minimize scrap and maximize quality.
4.5 Participate in kaizen events for metric improvement.
5. Downtime Reduction
5.1 Apply lean tools to identify weak points in all processes.
5.2 Have a production plan and communicate with subordinates.
5.3 If possible, run orders in sequence that minimizes clean down time.
6. Maximize Production Rates
6.1 Ensure equipment is operating per process sheet set points.
6.2 Report any issue that prevents process improvement.
7. Other Duties & aspects
7.1 All Orion employees are expected to behave in a manner that always reflects positively on Orion when involved in company business or discussions concerning Orion, in or out of normal business hours.
