Production Lead Operator - C-Shift Days

Lead operators are responsible for the direction and supervision of the day-to-day activities in their respective areas. As machine operators, they control machines and take charge of industrial operations. They handle and move objects, monitor processes, and inspect materials, structures, and equipment. Also, they serve as mentors for the new production employees concerning culture, operational tasks, and occupational health and safety. They must be skilled in safety procedures, heavy equipment, preventive maintenance, and other things related to machine operations.

Responsibilities:

• Monitor and adjust the machine for quality, throughput, and run ability. Must understand grade-specific requirements for quality and throughput.
• Detect and report defective materials or questionable conditions to the department supervisor.
• Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean orderly condition including magnets and follows prescribed safety regulations.
• Performs prescribed preventative maintenance on machines as required.
• Oversees safety, quality, and performance activities of all department employees.
• Relieve press operator on breaks if needed. Also, must be fully trained in the operation of cutters.
• Repair machine breakdowns and respond to fires in a timely manner.
• Perform the following tasks as required: machine set up and start up for any grade, hooking out the machine, cylinder turning or grinding, replacing steel roll, feed roll, condenser, etc. as listed in the instruction manual job method for Production Lead Operator.
• Change rotary blades and assist cutter crew as needed.
• Accurately complete all required paperwork.

Qualifications:

• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Have a valid Leigh Fibers, Inc., lift truck driver's license.
• Satisfactory job performance record including safety, productivity, teamwork, and reliability.
• Mechanical aptitude test required (score of 45 or above).
• 10th grade basic skill level or high school diploma/GED.
• Experience in a team leadership role.
