Job Summary:

The Production Chemist provides hands-on-technical chemistry experience and support to current production products. Production Chemists identify effective methods to maximize production capabilities, troubleshoot production and/or quality issues, and follow all relevant safety protocols. The Production Chemist must have excellent critical thinking skills as well as having extensive knowledge of chemical processing

Responsibilities:

Role Specific Responsibilities:

  • Carries out production tasks in support of manufacturing goals and objectives
  • Responsible for the timely completion and final quality for all PC1036 production batches
  • Supports the EHS department in quantifying all chemical air, ground or wastewater releases
  • Identify, plan, and implement process improvement projects
  • Participates in business meetings (representing the technical perspective) to evaluate and assist in generating options to address new and existing project opportunities process hazard analysis, and failure mode engineering and analysis
  • Runs new/complex chemistry processes according to customer requirements
  • Operate laboratory equipment, analytical instrumentation, and lab process machinery
  • including but not limited to viscometers, high pressure process equipment, GC, HPLC, and other analytical instrumentation
  • Recommends and participates in document revisions to ensure accurate BOMs and process descriptions
  • Leads efforts to improve current production processes, following all MOC and applicable site policies and procedures
  • Provide plant level technical support for new product introductions
  • Support new and current analytical test method development and modifications and liaise with Quality department
  • Leads and/or support investigations and documentation of deviations and exceptions
  • Identifies and resolves problems related to current manufacturing processes and materials
  • Writes/Maintains/Reviews controlled documents relating to process specifications, Master Batch Records (MBR), SOP’s, etc.
  • Helps develop and deliver operator training on new or modified equipment, processes, procedures, and materials
  • Demonstrates proficient use of Delta V and Pi Processbook
  • Demonstrates commitment to the development, implementation and effectiveness of the Aurorium Quality Management Systems per ISO/FDA and other regulatory agencies
  • Provides technical support to the Process Engineers for time sensitive manufacturing requests,

  • Reports all Health, Safety and Environmental accidents, incidents and near misses promptly
  • Acts in a safe and responsible manner at all times

Qualifications/Desired Skills:

Education and Qualifications:

  • BS in Chemistry is required
  • Experience working in plant environment troubleshooting production processes
  • Familiar with QC & QA functions

Experience:

  • Minimum 10 years specialty chemical manufacturing experience
  • 5 years analytical method development

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to work in a controlled environment requiring special attention to environmental, health, and safety regulation
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills – written and verbal
  • Reliable and trustworthy with the highest ethical standards and integrity
  • Ability to multi-task and problem solve while still meeting strict deadlines
  • Experience working with reactors, distillation, and general plant equipment
  • Appropriate use and technique in HPLC, GC/MS, GC, viscometry
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as: dilutions, purities, components, etc.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret professional journals, technical procedures and government regulations
