Job Summary:

The Product Safety Technician I coordinates the compliance programs in the Product Safety Department. They will administer various Product Safety testing programs. These include our 3rd party testing submission, vendor component testing program, CHCC (Chemicals of High Concern to Children) and Free Trade Agreement tasks. This position will also be a secondary testing technician in the lab.

Location: Onsite (Streetsboro, OH Headquarters)

Job Duties:

  • Reviews tests reports and uploads information into Step2 COC (Certificate of Conformity) and retailer databases.
  • Coordinate domestic testing program by sending samples to lab from production runs, ensuring reports are completed in a timely manner and acts as the point person for vendors for any questions.
  • Coordinate 3rd party testing submissions and communicate with 3rd party test labs by acting as the point person with lab, ordering and preparing samples and submitting to the lab, relaying due dates for test and ensuring shipping deadlines are met.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing and Purchasing areas to coordinate sample requests and process through testing.
  • Coordinates CHCC (Chemicals of High Concern) program. Maintains the online database for CHCC (IC2). Send letters to vendors and ensure we receive the documents back for inclusion into the online database
  • Determines applicable internal and external test standards and applies regulatory requirements to items tested at the lab.
  • Point person to request and oversee Free trade documents
  • Secondary duties include:
    • Inspects, tests, and evaluates products in accordance with applicable standards and customer requirements.
    • Documents internal test results in accordance with departmental procedures. Responsible for the accuracy of internal test records.
    • Interprets regulatory standards and relays that information to other departments as necessary
  • Performs all work in accordance with corporate and departmental procedures and policies
  • Other duties or special projects may be assigned as needed.

Qualifications and Experience Requirements:

  • High School diploma
  • 1 to 1 years related work experience
  • 2 years of college or associate degree preferred
  • Familiarity with ASTM Standards preferred
  • Some experience in Product Safety or quality assurance in the toy industry, in rotational, blow molded, or injection molded plastics, preferred
  • Mechanical skills and aptitude using handheld tools such as wrenches, screwdrivers, and air tools.
  • Able to read basic measuring instruments such as tape measures, calipers, and protractors
  • Working knowledge of inspection and testing equipment in a laboratory environment a plus
  • Ability to interpret drawings, product specifications and regulatory standards.
  • Microsoft Office, Excel, and basic computer skills.
  • Minimal travel for the purpose of training and professional development
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
