Product Manager, Recommendations

As we continue to scale, we are looking for a Product Manager with a strong focus on product recommendations to join our team and help drive our mission forward. Freelancer activation and engagement through providing relevant job recommendations is a key focus area of our overall growth strategy and you will be driving impact for our customers and for the company immediately. This position will report to the Director, Talent Growth.
Your Responsibilities:

• Drive user engagement by delivering personalized and relevant recommendations across various user touchpoints, including job suggestions, freelancer matches, and content recommendations.
• Work closely with engineering, design, data science, and business teams to develop and execute a product recommendation feature roadmap using ML and personalization based on data analysis and user feedback
• Define key input and output metrics to measure the success of initiatives, and use data-driven insights to optimize product performance and user experience.
• Design and conduct A/B tests and experiments to evaluate the effectiveness of recommendation algorithms, iterating on approaches to continuously improve performance.
• Stay informed about industry trends, competitor offerings, and emerging technologies related to recommendations and user personalization.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, engineers, designers, and other Product Managers, to implement and iterate on recommendation solutions.

What it Takes to Catch our Eye:

• 2+ years of building customer-facing products powered by ML & AI solutions (such as supervised/unsupervised learning, recommendation systems, reinforcement learning, deep learning, NLP, etc.), and familiarity with recommender systems
• Proven product management experience, with a focus on recommendation systems or related areas.
• Has grit and acute ownership: Every Product Manager at Upwork has General Manager-like aspects. We take pride in driving outcomes and optimizing end-to-end experiences.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, contribute to product vision, and execute on product roadmaps.
• Is highly collaborative and enjoys working in partnership with many areas to identify goals and work together to achieve them.
• Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and data-driven decision-making skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.

The annual base salary for this position in California and Washington ranges from $124,000 - $180,000. The range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum salary for this position in California and Washington, and individual base pay will depend on your qualifications, experience, and location. Additionally, this position is eligible for the annual bonus plan or sales incentive plan and eligibility to participate in our long term equity incentive program.
