Job Description

The Product Engineer is responsible for the development of new products and processes as well as improvements to existing product lines.

Key areas of Accountability
  • Play a lead role in delivery of cost-competitive, fully validated heat exchanger and engine cooling product lines from concept through production.
    1. 3D design (CAD) of heat exchangers and supporting components.
    2. Building detailed bill of materials and product costings.
    3. Material selection of specialized aluminum brazing materials.
    4. Creating design of experiments to validate key manufacturing aspects of heat exchanger including brazing reliability and leak testing.
    5. Develop prototype and product test plans.
    6. Analyze and resolve test failures.
    7. Work closely with cross functional teams to launch products into serial production.
  • Responsible for the development of product enhancements to existing product lines. For example, material cost reductions, increased performance, and design for manufacturing improvements.
  • Benchmark and analyze technical product market data.
  • Publish detailed product specifications and standards.

TECHNICAL SKILLS:

  • Must demonstrate a strong mechanical aptitude for design including 3D CAD modeling and design for manufacturing.
  • Strong ability to analyze numerical product and manufacturing data in Excel.
  • A strong interest in root-cause analysis of a wide range of engineering disciplines including statics and dynamics, material science, heat transfer and fluid mechanics.
  • Must be capable of directing technicians and operators to collect product data.
  • A commitment to develop and champion detailed product specifications and costings.
  • Must possess the ability to analyze and reduce waste in manufacturing cells as applied in new product development.
  • Develop expertise in the use of quality tools such as FMEAs, Design of Experiments, SPC and their application to product development.
  • Must be capable of developing machine requirements and working closely with Manufacturing and Tooling Engineers to source specialized heat exchanger machinery for manufacturing new product lines.
  • A commitment to staying up to date in the state-of-the-art of heat transfer technology as it applies to the vehicle industry through attending trade shows and seminars.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • The desired requirements of this position are:
    • A Batchelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering.
    • Experience in a heat transfer business and/or automotive supplier would be a plus.
  1. Experience in and OEM Manufacturing setting and/or specialized knowledge of metal stamping, aluminum brazing, welding, aluminum clad material, castings, or extrusions would be a plus.
