PURPOSE
Responsible for the collection, accumulation, categorizing, database entry, and archiving of vehicle technical data within SEMA’s Product Development programs. Respond to requests for information and data from members and Association staff.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND AUTHORITY
- Operation of 3D scanning equipment to develop digital models of individual components and/or complete vehicles, for the purpose of aftermarket product design and referencing.
- Operation of 3D scanning software to develop usable 3D scan models and digital reference geometry, for the purpose of aftermarket product design and referencing.
- Respond to SEMA members and Association staff requests for vehicle product data and information. Maintain and compile records of requests for information.
- Maintain databases of all vehicle product data collected through SEMA’s 3D scanning service.
- As updates of vehicle product data are received from the OEMs, develop internal logs for reference.
- Ensure that all data collected by SEMA’s 3D scanning service is secured, controlled, and accessed only by those authorized to do so.
- Periodically inform and update members and Association staff of the vehicle product data available.
- Develop and maintain regular reports of interest to members and Association management based on data collected by SEMA’s 3D scanning service and its usage by members.
- Assist in the development and implementation of a marketing initiates to promote SEMA Garage Product Development services.
- Operation of SEMA’s Rapid Prototyping (3D Printing) service: Member contact, pricing quotations, and production solutions.
- Assisting with the preparation and operation of SEMA Measuring Sessions.
- When directed by management, perform other assignments and duties as required.
RELATIONSHIPS
Reports to Product Development Supervisor, SEMA Garage
Interfaces with all levels of staff.
Interfaces with Association members.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED
- Associates of Science in Engineering, Technical Certification in Engineering, or the equivalent.
- Bachelors of Science in Engineering is a plus.
- Thorough knowledge of automotive components and their functions.
- Thorough understanding of CAD Design, Original/Aftermarket Vehicle Component(s), working with CAD data, operating a 3D Printer, operating a 3D Scanner, and knowledge of reverse engineering software to aid product design.
- Knowledge of different vehicle makes, trims, and model year changes.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to perform CAD conversion between different formats.
- Doctoring CAD Data for better use by cleaning up or modifying files.
- Knowledge of solid and surface modeling techniques.
- Strong understanding of engineer design process.
- Computer literate with understanding of computer systems including, but not limited to the following software packages: Microsoft Word, Power Point, Microsoft Excel.
- Knowledge of the following software is a plus: Solidworks, CATIA, Geomagic Design X, PolyWorks, VXelements, and/or Artec Studio.
- Ability to perform on-line data searches.
- Ability to interact with all members and Association staff in a professional and cooperative manner.
- One year of direct related experience, or completed education related to performing similar job duties with the stated necessary skills or proficiencies.
