Product Development Technician – Failure Analysis Sample Preparation
The Role:
The Device Analysis Lab at AMD is looking for the right candidate to perform Sample Preparation. Sample prep is a key step in the Failure Analysis of semiconductor devices and involves thinning silicon die so the engineering staff can accurately debug failures. You will be responsible for prepping current products, developing recipes for future products, maintaining all associated tools, and tracking lab supply inventories. The Person:
The ideal candidate should have knowledge of how semiconductors are manufactured and assembled. They should also have a high attention to detail; be able to both collaborate with a team and work independently; and take pride in the work they do.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prep devices to the engineers’ specifications in a timely fashion
- Become the subject matter expert in the sample prep process and tools for the lab
- Interface with sample prep tool vendors for repairs, preventative maintenance, and to evaluate new tools when needed
- Collaborate with engineering staff to perform non-routine experiments involving sample prep
- Keep track of lab supply inventories and reorder supplies as needed
- Follow all safety protocols related to ESD and chemical handling
- Cross-training on other tools to function as a backup when needed (CSAM, X-ray, parametric analyzer)
Preferred Experience:
- Prior experience with semiconductor device Sample Preparation is a plus (polishing wheels, milling/polishing systems)
- Knowledge of semiconductor manufacturing and assembly
- Knowledge of semiconductor Failure Analysis techniques
- Safe ESD and chemical handling in a lab setting
- Able to stand for extended periods
- Able to lift up to 25lbs
- Available for overtime/weekend work, if required (not often)
