Position Overview:
The Producing and Casting Assistant (PCA) works closely with the Producer and Casting Director (PCD) in broad-based outreach and collaboration to insure all Alliance production and workshop directors, choreographers, coaches, consultants, musicians and actors, etc., are identified and contracted in an artistically thoughtful, fiscally responsible and timely manner. This team serves as a conduit between each production and all other theatre departments to ensure institutional success and good will, including trouble shooting issues or problems through show closings as needed. This requires excellent communication, technical and organizational skills as well as a specific curiosity of and eye on the Atlanta artist community.
Key Casting Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate all aspects of prelim, show specific and callback audition sessions (space, zoom link, readers, accompanist, sides, etc.) for all season productions (eight to ten), workshops and readings including clear communication with talent and creative teams ensuring a positive experience throughout the casting process for everyone in the room or on the zoom.
  • Collect and aggregate self-tape submissions as projects necessitate.
  • Take ownership of the digital actor database, meticulously updating and managing comprehensive actor profiles as well as corresponding hard files.
  • Strategically plan, execute and attend monthly general audition sessions for the PCD ensuring a seamless process for actors. Serve as the auditor when the PCD is unavailable to attend.
  • Oversee and manage casting email inboxes, including the general audition inbox and the primary casting inbox.
  • Attend local theatre productions with an eye for new talent for general casting purposes as well as research and contact local organizations, theatres, schools, and more, to explore casting opportunities for their member/constituencies for specific productions.
  • Have a working knowledge of the Breakdown Services platform which includes posting casting notices and recording, editing and uploading tapes to the platform.
  • Be an engaged participant during audition sessions, offering feedback and insights to the PCD, and production directors when requested.
Key Producing Responsibilities:
  • Participate with PCD and the company management team in creative and talent seasonal budgeting, forecast maintenance and corresponding invoice processing.
  • Support PCD in correspondences with AT staff, members of multiple creative teams, and/or co-producers in support of show specific and other artistic program planning, budgeting, contracting and maintenance.
  • Attend weekly PACT (Production, Artistic, Creative, and Talent) and Artistic meetings, as well as show specific Production meetings and other sessions as instructed by the PCD.
  • Collaborate with the full artistic staff to maintain up to date SharePoint resource files.
  • Manage the creation and submission of end of season Equity reports.
  • Become familiar with Actor’s Equity (AEA), American Federation of Musicians (AFM), and Stage Directors and Choreographers Society (SDC) Collective Bargaining Agreements.
  • Assist the Managing Director on miscellaneous projects as requested.
  • Read and review scripts in consideration for season planning as directed by Artistic Directors.
  • Support the Assistant Company Manager in opening night planning and execution.
  • Strategize and Coordinate master class opportunities for seasonal understudies with artistic staff.
  • Produce and/or support artistic and engagement events in collaboration with artistic and engagement teams as available and directed by PCD.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Theatre, Performing Arts, or a related field.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Curiosity of the current theatre landscape and emerging talent.
  • A passion for the performing arts and its positive impact on community building.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and across departments.
  • Must maintain a high standard of confidentiality.
  • Must be able to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficiency and interest in management and Casting software and applications. Working knowledge of Excel, Google Docs, Tessitura and Breakdown Services a plus.
