Procurement/Sourcing Specialist II

Position Location: This position will be site based in Austin, TX and will support the Genetic Sciences Division business unit of Thermo Fisher Scientific.

How will you make an impact?

The Procurement Sourcing Specialist II will source, order, track, and maintain appropriate inventory levels of materials and supplies for supply chain teams. This position includes responsibility for sourcing, maintaining, and ordering raw materials from approved suppliers that align with internal regulations. They perform work that consistently requires independent decision making, and the exercise of independent judgment and discretion.

This is a service position and is responsive to the needs of internal and external (suppliers) customers.

What will you do?

• Apply MRP/ERP knowledge. You will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and implementing strategic and optimal purchasing plans.
• Coordinate the purchasing of raw materials and inventory control parameters for the assigned products consistent with ERP and MRP requirements.
• Use material replenishment methods, such as re-order points, just in time, and vendor managed safety stock.
• Initiate purchase orders and amendments based on forecasted demand.
• Maintain standard lead-times and service objectives in the ERP system, while minimizing the use air freight and other expedite costs.
• Secure and analyze quotations, review prices and terms with suppliers, and recommend suppliers with respect to cost, quality, and delivery competitiveness for assigned responsibilities.
• Maintain supplier relationships with current and prospective suppliers to resolve supply capabilities, transportation logistics inventory control and management; reviews prices and delivery terms with support from a Procurement Supervisor or the Procurement Division Business Partner for assigned responsibilities.
• Resolve material shortages, which are caused by supplier delivery delays, non-conforming material, or other problems, to satisfactory resolution. Expedite emergency orders as needed.
• Support key performance metrics for inventory health, purchase order management, vendor performance, and Delta P/PPV.
• Communicate effectively with business leads, SIOP, planning and other internal and external customers to assure supply stability.

How will you get here?

Education

• High School Diploma / GED required. Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, supply chain, communication, political science, or other related fields preferred.
• Certification in CPIM or CSCP a plus

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, & Experience

• 2+ years of relevant procurement or supply chain experience in a manufacturing supply chain environment.
• Experience in the Life Science, Medical Device industry, or regulated environments is a plus.
• Familiarity with ERP systems such as SAP, JD Edwards Enterprise One (E1) Oracle.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and a proficient knowledge of MS applications - Outlook, Power Point, Word, OneNote, Teams, Power BI.
• Strong analytical skills combined with practical business sense.
• Ability to thrive in a matrix and diverse cross-functional team environment.
• Proven ability to collaborate effectively in a global organization, within operations and with external clients.
• Agility in balancing multiple tasks within project parameters.
• Ability to work independently, typically initiating own tasks with input/mentorship from manager.
• Self-motivated individual who can work independently and within a team to get results.
