About us

Berks County Earned Income Tax Collection Bureau (Berks EIT) is an agency appointed to collect earned income and certain other taxes throughout Berks County.

We train you on how to track, process, and collect overdue earned income taxes for Berks County. You will use your customer service skills to assist taxpayers with tax questions and inquiries.

Responsibilities

- Research, collect, and analyze relevant data to identify delinquent taxpayers using provided technology.

- Maintain and monitor database of delinquent taxpayers.

- Create relationships with member municipalities and school districts to identify delinquent taxpayers.

- Coordinate mailing of non-filer letters and state comparison letters.

- Oversee account change requests to ensure all taxes for an account are current.

- Contact taxpayers by telephone and correspondence as needed to collect taxes due.

- Properly document and follow up on taxpayer information in the tax system.

Skills

- Two years of bookkeeping, record keeping, or payroll tax experience preferred.

- General knowledge of Berks County Municipalities and School Districts helpful.

- Associate Degree in relative area a plus

- Customer service experience preferred.

- Debt collection experience a plus.

- Strong sense of professionalism and discretion required.

- Ability to effectively communicate and work well in a team environment.

- Proficient in computer applications (i.e., Microsoft Office/Outlook).

- Ability to use independent thinking and sound judgment to follow procedures, process workload, and help taxpayers.

- Operate computerized and standard office equipment.

- Ability to utilize multiple screens and systems to resolve customer inquiries.

Pay: $21.00 - $28.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
