Princeton University Library (PUL) is one of the world's leading research libraries. It employs a dedicated & knowledgeable staff of more than 300 professional & support staff working in a large central library, 9 specialized branches, & 3 storage facilities. Through a combination of exemplary services & world-renowned collections the Library supports a diverse community of 5200 undergraduates, 2700 graduate students, 1200 faculty, & many visiting scholars. Its holdings include more than 10 million printed volumes, 5 million manuscripts, 2 million non-print items, & extensive collections of digital text, data, & images. Position Summary PUL seeks an archival description professional to create & enhance metadata for over 400 18th & 19th Century Americana Manuscript Collections. Topics include politics, literature, & performing arts, among others. Primary duties include accessioning, appraising, & processing archival collections in all formats; managing & enhancing data for collections as required by current standards, user needs, & reparative frameworks; assisting with public services duties; proposing & contributing to collaborative initiatives at the team level; collaborating with curators, the Collection Services Team, Preservation, & Public Services on collections management ; managing audiovisual & large-scale digitization & processing projects; & supervising students. As a member of the Special Collections (SC) Archival Description & ProcessingTeam, the Processing Archivist works under the guidance of the Lead Processing Archivist & reports to the Asst. Univ. Librarian for SC Technical Services. The successful candidate will be appointed as Associate Professional Specialist or more senior rank depending upon qualifications & experience. Essential Qualifications Master's degree from ALA-accredited program with archival coursework or advanced degree in an allied discipline with relevant experience Experience arranging & describing modern Manuscript Collections of varying sizes & formats Knowledge of & experience with relevant archival descriptive standards: DACS, EAD, EAC-CPF Familiarity with current developments in processing procedures & ability to learn new technologies Ability to manage multiple priorities & tasks & to work effectively, both independently & collaboratively, in a dynamic environment with a diverse group of staff & patrons Excellent interpersonal, organizational, written, & oral communication skills Demonstrated initiative, flexibility, & a commitment to professional engagement & continuous learning Commitment to diversity, equity, & inclusion & serving the needs of a diverse population Preferred Qualifications Experience with electronic records accessioning, description, & preservation Knowledge of trends in the digitization of archival material Experience providing reference services in special collections Experience with ArchivesSpace or other collection management system Experience with accessioning & bibliographic MARC-format cataloging.
