Process Safety Engineer - Process Safety Management Coordinator
The Health, Safety, Environment & Security Department of FutureFuel Chemical Company in Batesville, Arkansas, has an opening for a Process Safety Management (PSM) Coordinator. The Process Safety Management (PSM) Coordinator works with Health, Safety, Process Development, and Process Management departments to provide Process Safety guidance and oversite. The PSM Coordinator also ensures Compliance with applicable OSHA and EPA regulations. Some individual responsibilities may include:
- Lead Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) studies for new and existing chemical processes which will include learning and becoming the expert on FutureFuel’s current PHA software
- Ensure full compliance with Process Safety Management (PSM) regulations.
- Ensure full compliance with Risk Management Program (RMP) regulations.
- Document and steward safety improvement opportunities.
- Participate in the development of new chemical processes.
- Work with chemists and engineers to develop and conduct Process Safety training.
- Review and evaluate PSM events and action items.
- Conduct process and job safety audits.
- Attend safety training and incorporate best practices into safety programs.
- Maintain safety information, procedures and databases.
- The preferred candidate should have a four-year technical degree, preferably Safety Science, Chemistry, or Engineering. Experience with batch and continuous production of complex organic specialty chemicals is a plus.
- An interest in and a desire to work on production safety issues.
- A working knowledge of manufacturing areas, equipment and processes.
- The ability to investigate and resolve safety compliance issues which sometime do not have clear-cut resolutions.
- Interpret regulations to the best of your ability and use consultants, both internal peers first, and then outside agencies as necessary, and select a defendable position.
- Understanding of high-level mathematics and possess the skills for application to chemical production regulatory compliance.
- Good understanding of general chemistry & organic chemistry.
- Good computer skills.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent people skills. Work with a wide variety of people within FFCC as well as outside customers, consultants, and environmental regulators.
- A proven track record of reliability.
The candidate should be flexible and willing to accept a variety of work assignments and must be comfortable working independently or as a participant in or leader of a multidisciplinary project team.
