Job Summary
The Extruding Process Engineer partners with individuals across the business to lead and support our continuous improvement efforts within the blown film extrusion department. The Process Engineer will be hands-on and instrumental in driving process optimization, quality enhancements, and operational efficiency. Use of Six Sigma methodologies and data analysis will be pivotal in shaping the future of our extrusion processes. Collaborates with New Product Development team to ensure the plant processes and equipment are capable and ready for industrialization. As a member of the Continuous Improvement Department support the coaching and development of problem solvers.
Job Responsibilities
- Process Documentation and Standardization: Establish and maintain standardized processes, ensuring meticulous documentation of process parameters, experiments, and improvements. Facilitate knowledge sharing and training sessions within the department.
- Strategic Process Optimization: Implement strategic initiatives to optimize blown film extrusion processes, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and industry best practices.
- Data Analysis: Utilize data analysis techniques and statistical methods (when needed) to extract actionable insights, identify improvement opportunities, and drive data-driven decision-making processes.
- Problem Solving Leadership: Lead Lean/Six Sigma projects with a hands-on approach, mentor teammates, and champion a culture of continuous improvement within the Extrusion Department.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including, Sales, Marketing, NPD, Operations, and Quality to drive collaborative initiatives aimed at enhancing product quality, reducing defects, lowering costs, and improving overall efficiency.
- Innovation and Technology Integration: Stay abreast of emerging technologies and innovations in blown film extrusion. Develop business cases with ROIs to integrate new methodologies and equipment to enhance productivity and quality standards.
- Quality Assurance Leadership: Provide guidance to the quality assurance team, offering insights into root cause analysis, corrective action planning, and continuous quality improvement efforts in extrusion.
- Safety and Compliance: Support safety compliance initiatives, ensuring adherence to safety protocols, conducting regular safety audits, and fostering a culture of safety awareness among team members.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Travel up to 10%
Education, Experience and Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering required.
- Prefer Chemical, Polymer, or Mechanical Engineering background or equivalent experience.
- 3 years or more experience in Process Engineering.
- Proficient in MS O365 and Minitab or other Statistical Software.
- Demonstrated ability to develop strong relationships with others to lead peers
- Effective written and verbal communication skills across multiple formats
- Experience with structured problem-solving such as A3 and DMAIC
- Demonstrated experience leading change.
- Ability to learn, understand, and contribute to, controls systems, machine data acquisition, and business analytics systems
- Must be able to climb ladders, lift 50 lbs., stand on feet all day, and communicate well in a noisy environment.
