JOB SUMMARY
The Industrial Control Systems Engineer (Process Automation Engineer) is responsible for supporting the design, implementation, and specification of industrial plant automation systems and associated tasks. The Process Automation Engineer works under the close guidance of Senior Engineers to complete assignments and develop knowledge and skills. The Process Automation Engineer has knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within their field.
DURING A TYPICAL DAY
  • Conduct thorough analysis and troubleshooting of control systems to identify and resolve technical issues, ensuring uninterrupted production.
  • Collaborate with IT and cybersecurity teams to implement and maintain robust security measures for industrial control systems, including Emerson DeltaV DCS, and associated industrial networks.
  • Provide technical support for the Emerson DeltaV DCS, troubleshooting issues, identifying root causes, and implementing solutions to minimize downtime and optimize system performance. This includes diagnosing hardware and software problems, conducting system upgrades and patches, and performing regular maintenance tasks.
  • Stay updated with emerging technologies and industry trends related to industrial automation, control systems, industrial networks, and cybersecurity.
  • Participate in system design activities, including developing control strategies, configuring controllers, and defining process control parameters within the DeltaV DCS environment. Collaborate with project teams to ensure effective implementation of control strategies and adherence to industry standards and best practices.
  • Continuously monitor and evaluate the performance of the DeltaV DCS, identifying opportunities for system optimization and efficiency improvements. Analyze process data, conduct system audits, and propose modifications or enhancements to enhance system reliability, safety, and performance.

STRENGTHS OF A SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE
  • Bachelors of Science degree is required in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Computer Science or a related field.
  • Heavy process / industrial automation experience requirements:
    • Industrial Control Systems Engineer I: No experience required
    • Industrial Control Systems Engineer II: 4 or more years of overall experience with 3 or more years of experience in a related industry.
    • Industrial Control Systems Engineer III: 8 or more years of overall experience with 6 or more years of experience in a related industry.
    • Senior Industrial Control Systems Engineer: 12 or more years of overall experience with 10 or more years of experience in a related industry.
  • Strong knowledge and experience with Emerson DeltaV Distributed Control System (DCS) and associated technologies.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Function Block Diagram (FBD) or Sequential Function Chart (SFC).
  • Understanding of industrial control systems, process control methodologies, and automation concepts.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and train end-users.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills as well as the ability to embrace change.
  • You know the basics of Microsoft Office Suite. You're capable of learning new programs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Occasional travel will be necessary to visit the bioprocessing facilities, perform system upgrades and conduct site visits. At times overnight travel may be necessary.
  • The work environment at POET is dynamic. You should expect a balance between time spent in the office and at the bioprocessing facility, which may include some physical labor helping your team members.
  • Specific physical requirements may include:
    • Sitting for approximately 90% of the time while working on a personal computer.
    • Occasionally lifting weight up to sixty (60) pounds or less.
    • Climbing several flights of stairs and ladders.
    • Occasionally bending, twisting, and turning while lifting weights of less than fifty (50) pounds.
    • Walking of two (2) or more miles per day.
    • Working at heights, in confined spaces, and at temperatures from -20 to +100 degrees.
    • Standing for extended periods of time.
    • Wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
