The Probation Department is recruiting for Probation Cooks I who participate in and oversee the preparation of meals at a Probation Department institutional facility. These positions are responsible for determining quantities of food to prepare; preparing, cooking, and seasoning of food; serving and supervising the serving of food; and maintaining security through constant control of kitchen tools and equipment.

2) Background: Prior to appointment, applicants will be fingerprinted and must pass a background investigation. Applicants must not have been convicted of a felony or currently be on court ordered probation (or have been within the last year).
3) Location: These positions are located in Apple Valley and San Bernardino. Please indicate Victorville and/or San Bernardino on your location availability, as applicable.
4) Travel: Travel throughout the County may be required to fulfill shift demand and meet operational need. A valid California Class C driver license and proof of liability auto insurance must be maintained for the individual providing the transportation.
5) Physical: These positions require lifting up to fifty (50) pounds, standing, squatting, and reaching.
6) Certificate: Incumbents must obtain a San Bernardino County Food Handlers Certificate within two (2) weeks of appointment.
7) Sponsorship:San Bernardino County is not able to consider candidates who will require visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet one of the options listed below:
Option 1: Paid cook or food service experience.
Option 2: Considerable experience cooking food for a large number of persons in batches (e.g. hospital, school, jail, military, banquet, etc.)
Option 3: A community college Certificate in Culinary Arts.
