Job Description
JOB SUMMARY: Under direct supervision, improves chart quality by accurately documenting the physician's medical findings and treatment plan in order to allow the physician to focus on patient care.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or GED equivalent with one year clerical or office experience.
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, and/or REGISTRATION: N/A ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Accompanies the physician to medical exams, and reports in writing the patient's history, medications, physical examination, and patient orders that result from the visit.
2. Records the results of ordered tests once returned by lab. Completes the chart by writing the discharge and follow-up instructions.
3. Verifies the chart for appropriate coding level. Reviews the chart and ensures it has been documented correctly for the designated code.
4. Ensures the physician reviews the chart for accuracy. Obtains physician's signature for each encounter.
5. Relays messages to the nursing staff, medical technicians, and/or the patient to expedite patient flow throughout the department.
6. Performs other related duties incidental to work described herein.
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS: Excellent oral and written communication skills Experience in a healthcare or medical environment Knowledge of medical terminology
