Clarion Psychiatric Center offers inpatient treatment for adults with moderate to severe psychiatric problems, inpatient crisis stabilization for children and adolescents, and a Partial Hospitalization Program for school-aged children.  Our recently expanded 112-bed inpatient program has 4 units.  For over 30-years, Clarion has provided the community a compassionate and respectful therapeutic environment with an emphasis on strong teamwork.

Qualifications

Job Summary:  Responsible for the timely processing of inquiry and referral calls remotely.  Serves as Call Specialist to referral sources, physicians, unit staff and hospital personnel involved with each transfer request.  Enters call data into the facility’s database and manages all e-fax application(s) to process incoming referrals and transfer requests in a timely manner. Effectively communicate with unit staff, physicians, and Admissions Triage Staff. Follow hospital’s policies and procedures regarding referral management.

 

Essential Job Duties:

  • Comply with all Administrative, Clinical, and Human Resources policies and procedures.
  • Actively supports the mission, philosophy, and goals of the hospital.
  • Communicates with sensitivity to growth, development, and cultural issues.
  • Receives all referral/inquiry calls and responds to requests for transfer and assessment in a timely manner.
  • Able to effectively serve and work with patients, families, referral sources, community resources as well as departmental and facility co-workers and management team.
  • Ensures accurate information is provided to referral sources as requested.
  • Collaborates with Business Office staff to ensure that payor information is obtained and verified.
  • Collaborate with Business Development team regarding any referral source related needs.
  • Collaborates with referral sources, families, physicians, agencies, and other callers to ensure that requests for transfer and admission are managed effectively.
  • Ability to effectively address at risk, emotionally disturbed or in crisis potential patients and individuals effectively via telephone.
  • Ensure all referral patient medical record information is completed and nursing and clinical staff are adequately apprised of the patient’s condition/history.
  • Working knowledge of Involuntary process and procedure
  • Knowledgeable and complies with all EMTALA regulations.
  • Enter all call data into facility database.
  • Effectively manage facility’s e-fax application(s) to disposition incoming referrals in a timely manner.
  • Able to use facility’s electronic bed board for bed management purposes.
  • Maintains professional demeanor in dress, attitude, support of unit milieu, and hospital mission and philosophy.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

 

Qualifications

 

Education: Bachelors / Masters degree in Psychology or related field, LPN, or RN

 

Experience:  1-3 years of experience preferred in psychiatric health care.

 

Licensure/Certification: For LPN's or RN’s, Licensure as a Practical or Registered Nurse in state of Pennsylvania required

 

Additional Requirements:  Successful completion of all onboarding requirements including but not limited to education and credentialing within 30 days from date of hire. CPR/AED certification and successful completion of Verbal De-escalation, Handle with Care and Service Excellence. Must possess good verbal and written communication skills.  May be required to work overtime and flexible hours.

 

Job Classification:  Hours based on departmental, and facility needs may include day, evening and weekend hours.  This job description in no way states or implies that these are the only duties to be performed by this employee.  Employee will be required to follow any other instructions and to perform any other duties as requested by the Director of Admissions.

 

Knowledge:

Excellent customer service and communication skills (i.e., verbal and written).  Ability to prioritize, work well under periods of high stress and pressure.  Ability to multi-task and demonstrate critical thinking skills.  Thorough knowledge of psychiatric services and medical capabilities provided by the hospital.  Ability to work flexible hours.  Requires knowledge of computers and ability to utilize Department specific electronic applications, and accurate data entry skills.  Experience reviewing medical and clinical information to staff appropriately with physician is preferred.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit 8-12 hours a day at a desk and/or table.
  • Ability to hear and speak clearly over the telephone for 6-12 hours a day.
  • Ability to use office equipment such as computers, faxes, e-fax application(s), referral management applications, telephone, copiers, and other Department electronic applications.
  • Emotional stability and interpersonal skills to accommodate emotionally disturbed or in crisis potential patients and families on the phone and in person in a calm manner.
  • Ability to see and write legibly and be grammatically correct.
