The Montgomery County Correctional Facility (MCCF), located at 22880 Whelan Lane, Boyds, MD 20841
- Background: MCCF is responsible for the custody and care of male and female offenders who are either in a pre-trial status or serving sentences of up to 18 months. MCCF is organized into three major functional areas (Custody & Security, Inmate Services & Programs, and Facility Operations); each area is managed by a Deputy Warden.
The Montgomery County Detention Center (MCDC) located at 1307 Seven Locks Road, Rockville, MD, 20854
- Background: (MCDC) is responsible for the intake and processing of adult male and female offenders and has a capacity of up to 200 inmates. Approximately 13,000 offenders are booked into Central Processing Unit annually. The facility operates as the Intake unit providing psychological screening, medical screening, and risk assessment to determine the appropriate classification level of inmates and to provide for initial care, custody and security of inmates for up to 72 hours prior to their transfer to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility (MCCF).

Qualifications:
- Completion of a state approved/accredited practical nursing program and/or college or university
- At least 2 years of experience as a practicing Registered Nurse
- Active RN license
- Have a current BLS certification
Nursing Services:
· The Contractor’s nurses must be available to work a day, evening, or night shift as required. Actual hours vary depending on the day of the week and the facility.
· Nursing care occurs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with staffing of 2 to 5 nurses depending on the facility and work shift.
· Shifts can be 10, 11 or 12 hours in duration primarily at the MCCF and MCDC locations.
Nursing Duties/Job Description:
· Charge Nurses assign nursing tasks each shift. All nurses administer medications which also involves pushing a medication cart in the housing unit. Correctional officers oversee the safety and security of the nurses when inside the housing units.
· Other nursing duties include nurse’s sick-call duty which includes evaluating and treating common health conditions according to pre-established protocols.
· There is also a nursing role supporting the physician during doctor’s sick call.
· Nurses are assigned to collect laboratory specimens, complete ECG’s, dressing changes and other nursing care as ordered by the Physician.
· The Contractor’s nurses must have assessment and triage skills.
· Must be able to work a shift without the presence of a physician, nurse practitioner or psychiatrist.
· Nurses must provide nursing care for inmates only in the manner prescribed herein, and consistent with accepted medical practices.
· Performing intake screening at the time of admission to the facility which includes taking a medical history, vital signs, nursing treatments as necessary, determining the level of care needed such as referral to the physician, psychiatrist, or hospital.
· Responding to requests for medical attention. The Contractor’s nurse must triage and see inmates at their scheduled time and provide immediate nursing care in response to medical emergencies as they arise.
· Assisting the Physician when he/she is conducting sick calls, which includes preparing and administering medications as directed by the Physician, Nurse Practitioner, Dentist, Psychiatrist, or designee.
· Providing and maintaining medical records which includes pulling and filing medical records and documenting in the medical record in accordance with acceptable nursing practice.
· Following Physician orders to include but not limited to medication administration, venipuncture, dressing changes, and blood glucose monitoring.
· Must supervise and assist inmates who administer their own insulin injections.
· Other nursing services as instructed by the Division Chief, Medical & Behavioral Health Services, or Nurse Manager.
