PRN Hospice Music Therapist

Overview:
The Music Therapist, in conjunction with the Hospice Interdisciplinary Group (IDG), implements the utilization of music within a therapeutic relationship to address physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual needs of dying individuals, their family members and/or primary caregivers. The Music Therapist duties are performed in accordance with hospice regulations, and agency policy, and under the supervision of the RN Case Manager.

- Observes emotional and spiritual well-being, physical health, social functioning, communication abilities, and cognitive skills in response to music therapy
- Designs music interventions for individuals and groups based on patient/family needs using improvisation, receptive music listening, song writing, lyric discussion, music and imagery, and music performance
- Work with the IDG to determine patient/family needs and implement patient plan of care, documenting visit results
- Participates in interdisciplinary group meetings
- Completes appropriate documentation in a timely manner
- Participates in ongoing education programs
- Follows the policy of confidentiality regarding patients and families
- Demonstrates a compassionate attitude toward patients and families that is consistent with the hospice philosophy and mission
- Performs other related duties and special projects as assigned.
- Music Therapy services will be evaluated by the RN Case Manager for ongoing patient needs
- Supports mission, values and goals of Signature
- Basic experience using a computer/electronic device is required.
- Must be willing and able to travel between multiple patients
- A genuine interest in people, with an ability to establish caring and professional relationships with people of all ages and abilities
- Empathy, patience, creativity, imagination, an openness to new ideas, flexibility, and an understanding of self
- Volunteer and/or work-related experiences with the geriatric population preferred
- Must be able to work independently and must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position
- Must function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with the clients, their families, personnel, and support agencies
- Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly and emotionally upset people within a long-term health care facility, hospital or a patient’s personal home
