Responsibilities

  • Assess physical, psychosocial, growth and development of the patient.
  • Nursing assessment is completed at the beginning of triage and as patient's condition changes.
  • Triage is completed as soon as possible
  • Physician is informed in a timely manner based on implications and severity of significant deviations from the norm of the patient’s condition.
  • Unit based and age appropriate guidelines are followed in performing patient assessment.
  • Plan of care is developed based on nursing assessment, customized to include patient specific problems and needs.
  • Patient /family involvement in discharge planning and teaching needs are included in plan of care.
  • Patient rounds are conducted every hour and pt.s are documented on every hour.
  • Physician orders processed within a timely manner and STAT orders are carried out first
  • Medications are administered per hospital policy.
  • Patients are assigned to team members based on knowledge and skill level.
  • Plan of care is updated and revised following medical orders, and in accordance with nursing policy and procedures as patient condition and needs change and input updated from other team members.
  • Nurse manager and/or medical personnel are notified immediately of potential patient crisis situations.
  • Patient care assignments are revised based on unit census and activity, team members, availability and patient care needs.
  • Assessment, assignments, resolutions, planned goals and nursing care are documented.
  • Crisis situations are documented before end of shift including patient condition preceding, during and after the crisis, as well as medications and treatments provided.
  • Shift reports accurately reflect patient status and needs are communicated in order of priority at the beginning and ending of the shift and upon patient transfer.
  • Appropriate hospital department or external agency is consulted to justify patient’s immediate and discharge
  • Pertinent and timely information is provided to members of the nursing team and the multi-disciplinary patient care team.
  • A professional, helpful and friendly manner is used in interactions with hospital personnel and customers.
  • Provides teaching and guidance to patient significant others and staff members.
  • A helpful, professional, empathetic manner is used during instructions.
  • New staff members are instructed on basic nursing care and hospital department policies and procedures.
  • New staff members are assisted with assignments until they can adequately and safely perform task.
  • Emergency equipment and supplies are maintained in department.
  • Make shift assignments based on patient’s acuity. Patients are divided equally among staff.
  • Delegates responsibility and authority to those able to assume and implement them.
  • Evaluates patient care given by team and initiates staff conferences for solving patient care problems.
  • Takes ACLS and PALS certification exam within one year of employment.
  • Demonstrates competency in EKG interpretation, administration of TNK and other clinical competencies.
  • Becomes clinically competent in another nursing unit in the hospital
  • Removes trash and linen from patient care areas and dispenses of it properly at the end of each shift.
  • Organizes, cleans, and maintains unit work area, supplies and equipment.
  • Maintain confidentiality at all time in accordance with Protected Health Information (PHI)


Education/ Qualifications:

  • BSN OR ADN
  • High School Diploma
  • Current GA License
  • *Current CPR/BLS Certification
  • *Current ACLS Certification
  • *Current ASLS Certification
  • *Full-time RN’s must have current TNCC certification
  • RN’s are required to have:
      • 30 hours by a Board approved provider or
      • Verification of competency -@ least 500 hours practiced as evidence by employer certification
        in order to renew and maintain current RN license


Experience:

Prior experience in medical field preferred but not required.

 

Physical Demands:
Employee is required to both sit and stand for prolonged periods of time. Will be required to lift up to 100 lbs. Bending, stooping, are all frequently done in a workday. The ability to think and work under stress, to tolerate being subjected to frequent interruptions, and be will willing to work beyond normal working hours as necessary. Requires communication ability (speak, read, comprehend, and write)

 

Working Environment:

Works in a climate controlled hospital setting.

 

Equipment:
Telephone, copier, fax, computer, VS equipment, cardiac monitor, defibrillator, PCA pump, IV pump, telemetry, scales, medication cart, etc.
