Prior Authorization Specialist

Responsibilities:

• Review a diverse range of medical documentation and skillfully prepare pre-authorization requests for a variety of home medical equipment.
• Tenaciously follow up with insurance providers on submission statuses to secure timely approvals and effectively manage any denials.
• Demonstrate a proactive approach by initiating and managing appeals for denied authorizations, ensuring that every possibility is explored for our patients.
• Master various methods for pre-authorization submissions and diligently follow up using fax, phone, email, website portals, and other communication channels.
• Develop proficiency in HCPC billing codes, medical terminology, and the interpretation of complex chart notes to ensure accurate and efficient processing.
• Acquire an in-depth understanding of the specific requirements of each insurance company we work with, and effectively navigate the intricacies of submitting pre-authorization requests for each provider.
• Collaborate seamlessly within a high-paced team environment to guarantee the timely provision of crucial equipment for our patients.
• Communicate effectively and professionally with insurance companies, sales representatives, the billing department, and fellow team members to ensure a streamlined and efficient authorization process.

• High School Diploma or equivalent qualification.
• Prior work experience in a professional office environment is essential.
• Previous experience in Prior Authorization and/or Durable Medical Equipment (DME) is a mandatory requirement for this role.
• Working knowledge of durable medical equipment is a strong advantage, although not a strict prerequisite.
• Proficiency in basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, SharePoint, etc.), is crucial for success in this role.
• Exceptional interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and maintain professional relationships with various stakeholders.
• Highly self-motivated, with the capacity to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.
