The United Design team at UnitedHealth Group works on member, provider, and guest experiences across several lines of businesses, applications, anddigitalportals. This specific role will be part of the Design team that supports the UnitedHealthcare business, which provides health insurance for Consumers, Medicare & Medicaid beneficiaries, and people eligible for subsidized healthcare through individual exchanges. Our team also support the guest experience on uhc.com. As the Principal designer, you will work closely with design leadership, product & business stakeholders and the design team to translate the product strategy into a compelling design vision. You will be the glue that enables better design in the healthcare space by bringing together cross functional teams. Design with and for our members and consumers, learn from and improve our community of practice and have a direct impact on health outcomes at the biggest scale in the world.

Primary Responsibilities:  

  • Lead the design strategy and execution for a functional or product area 
  • Translate product strategy into a compelling design vision 
  • Provide thought leadership and oversee the work of several designers from concepting to execution 
  • Provide materialexperience and designsupport for the Consumer Experience onUHC Memberauthenticated and consumer sitesas needed by Digital Product teams
  • Supportproductstrategy, Information Architecture, user research, experience requirements gathering from stakeholders
  • Interpret analytics, voice of the customer, market feedback, site rankings and any relevant collateral as needed
  • Explore emerging opportunity in the healthcare digital space, evaluate and evangelize as needed
  • Be the voice of the user in prioritization, new product and feature development forDigital Productsand other digitalexperienceareas as needed
  • Lead discussion and critique of work, solicit requirements from stakeholders, be a key partner in helping deliver on our mission
  • Serves as a key resource on complex and/or critical issues
  • Anticipates customer needs and proactively develops solutions to meet them
  • Solves complex problems and develops innovative solutions
  • Authorizes deviations from standards
  • Motivates and inspires other team members
  • Regularly presents to senior leadership

Years of post-high school education can be substituted/is equivalent to years of experience

Required Qualifications: 

  • 6 years of hands of experience with information architecture, interaction design, ux design or graphic design 
  • 4 years incorporating user feedback in the design process (user research, NPS, Voice of the customer) 
  • 4 years of experience building or consuming personas to inform design decisions 
  • 4 years of experience working in cross functional teams 
  • 4 years of experience presenting to stakeholders 
  • 4 experience with any of the design tools - Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch, Figma, Axure 
  • 2 years providing direction to other UX designers on a project 

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Certifications in Human Centered Design 
  • Experience and proven ability to work across a matrixed multi-tiered organization and deliver the best possible outcomes 
  • Experience with Agile product development  
  • Solid knowledge and understanding of front-end development 

California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, or Washington Residents Only: The salary range for California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island or Washington residents is $101,200 to $184,000 per year. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
