The Principal Software Engineer is part of the R&D product development team. This role will work as a member of a large multi-functional (hardware, software, electrical, mechanical) team in the software design and development of embedded software for Respiratory Care Products reflecting high professional standards. This role is responsible for ensuring that software used in the development, manufacturing and as part of medical devices is developed according to good design practices and follows the corresponding requirements set forth by local procedures, regulatory authorities and notified bodies. This role will provide the key leadership, deep subject matter expertise, technical/project oversight and training/coaching.
A Day in the Life
Takes the technical leadership role in software design and development of large scope and complex software projects
Takes the leadership role in identifying and implementing the best-in-class systems software development processes, methods, tools, and standards.
Takes the leadership role with cross-functional and software teams to identify user needs and develop product requirements, system requirements/specifications, software requirements/specifications, software architecture/design specifications and implementation
Mentors software developers and provides technical guidance as necessary.
Works with senior leadership/management, cross-functional key stakeholders, and software team to deliver the top-quality software designs and work products on time
Works with senior leadership/management, cross-functional key stakeholders, and software team to develop and maintain the software group’s technology roadmap.
Must Have: Minimum Requirements
Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or other Technical Degree
Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience
Nice to Have
Expert working knowledge of C/C++.
Expert working knowledge of OOA&D and UML.
Highly knowledgeable of low-level debugging
Highly knowledgeable of RTOS (SafeRTOS, Linux, QNX/GHS, etc)
Highly knowledgeable of OS componentization, debugging and performance analysis tools for Microsoft Platforms
Highly knowledgeable and demonstrated experience in Software Engineering processes and product life cycles.
Experience in embedded Software Engineering of complex systems interfacing electrical and mechanical hardware.
Experience developing unit testing with Google test
Experience developing software in a regulated industry such as medical, aerospace, defense, etc.
Proficient in design and development utilizing native and managed technologies, targeted for Smart Devices
Design and development utilizing native and managed technologies for Smart Devices
Design and development of software/hardware with control systems engineering
Excellent understanding of Systems Engineering
Effective communication and presentation skills
Strong mentoring skills and a desire to mentor junior staff
Strong leadership and good team player

The provided base salary range is used nationally in the United States (except in Puerto Rico and certain CA locations). The rate offered is compliant with federal/local regulations and may vary by experience, certification/education, market conditions, location, etc.
