Salary Range
Principal Server Engineer - The typical base pay range for this position at the start of employment is expected to be between $125,000 - $240,000 per year.
ZeniMax has different base pay ranges for different work locations within the United States, which allows us to pay employees competitively and consistently in different geographic markets. The range above reflects the potential base pay across the U.S. for this role; the applicable base pay range will depend on what ultimately is determined to be the candidate's primary work location. Individual base pay depends on various factors, in addition to primary work location, such as complexity and responsibility of role, job duties/requirements, and relevant experience and skills. Base pay ranges are reviewed and typically updated each year. Offers are made within the base pay range applicable at the time.
At ZeniMax certain roles are eligible for additional rewards, such as merit increases and discretionary bonuses. These awards are allocated based on individual performance and are not guaranteed. Benefits/perks listed here may vary depending on the nature of employment with ZeniMax and the country work location. Responsibilities
Your Daily Life at Bethesda Game Studios
As Principal Server Programmer, you will...
- Workswith other senior engineers to architect and refine game server systems;
- Work with designers, artists and other personnel involved in the development of products as required;
- Develop and author all phases of technical design specifications and completes implementation;
- Write clear, maintainable, portable code;
- Test and refine code and systems throughout the development cycle of the project;
- Accurately estimate your schedules and deliver high quality work products to that schedule.
Qualifications
What Makes You S.P.E.C.I.A.L.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering;
- 8+ years professional software development experience writing client / server applications in C++;
- Expertise in building multithreaded, multi-process, real-time systems;
- Expertise with client/server message passing architectures;
- Experience tuning real-time server systems for performance and reliability;
- Experience with persistence of distributed systems;
- Expertise in Unix/Linux/Win32 Operating systems;
- Excellent analytical and mathematical skills;
- Strong interpersonal skills and problem solving ability.

- Database API programming in C++;
- Experience with SQL;
- Experience with Lua, Python, Bash;
- Experience mentoring or directing work of more junior staff;
- Game industry experience.
